Capital G Staff Give Back

December 23, 2010

Yesterday [Dec 22] Capital G staff and its charitable partner Meals on Wheels prepared and delivered hot lunches to Bermuda’s elderly and shut in clients as a part of its fourth annual ‘Holiday Giving Back’ fundraising programme.

Through this initiative, Capital G commits hours of its staff volunteer time to its holiday charity recipient in addition to raising funds during this critical season of giving. Capital G has been encouraging the community to donate a Dollar amount of their choosing to the bank’s ‘Holiday Giving Back’ account in support of Meals on Wheels and the bank will match up to $5,000.

Michael DeCouto, SVP, Marketing said: “This year, due to the challenging economic climate and the consequent increase in demand on the services of charitable groups, Capital G has committed to directing its ‘Holiday Giving Back’ funds to benefit Meals on Wheels. To date collectively, we have raised more than $10,000. Yesterday alone with the assistance of Capital G volunteers 170 plus meals were prepared and delivered to seniors.”

Each meal costs $5 to those who can afford to pay, however the cost of Meals on Wheels to prepare and deliver each meal is $10. Yesterday, it cost Meals on Wheels $1,700 to feed 170 people plus the assistance of volunteers who give their time each week to support this needy cause.

Michael DeCouto continued: “Capital G prides itself on assisting its charitable partners beyond cash donations. Capital G staff volunteers reached out to assist Meals on Wheels with meal preparation and delivery.”

Joe Gibbons, President of Meals on Wheels, said: “We are very grateful to be chosen as the recipient of Capital G Bank’s’ Holiday Giving Back’ Programme. We have seen a steady increase in demand for our services and for the past few years have been operating our hot meals programme at full capacity. Our mission has been to maintain Meals on Wheels as a source of support for Bermuda’s residents, and we thank Capital G and the community for their additional support of our work during the busy festive season.”

Capital G salutes Meals on Wheels and especially its hard working volunteers for their work year round. In addition, Capital G would like to remind Bermuda to extend a helping hand to the elderly in your neighbourhood and remember at this holiday time not everyone may be as fortunate as others and a kind gesture can lift the spirits and well being of those in need. ‘Giving Back’ is the best gift one can give.
