DCI & Cabinet Brighten Family Christmas

December 31, 2010

ChristmasPresents2Premier Paula Cox encouraged special Gift Giving this Christmas season and both the Cabinet Office and Department of Communication and Information [DCI] embraced the idea, joined together and selected one family for a special Christmas visit. Staff members dug into their pockets and purchased a variety of items for the family that included both a young son and daughter.

The goods were delivered to the family on Monday evening past and the Government Protocol Officer described the event saying: “It was truly a tear-jerking experience. The Mom was totally overjoyed. As I arrived she couldn’t believe her eyes as the car was packed to the hilt with gifts and Christmas supplies. She started crying and so did I. I cried the whole way home. She called the next day to say that when her children arrived home they screamed and jumped as if they were in the gombeys.”

Items donated by the DCI and Cabinet team included a tree and decorations; turkey; ham; hamper of food; clothing and toys including spider man, baby alive, truck, games and more.

The DCI Director said, “The Premier has encouraged us throughout the season to think of others — of our families and neighbours, of our country and of those less fortunate. She asked us to give of ourselves and we decided on this wonderful opportunity. It has been heartwarming as we follow her lead and we encourage all to do the same next year.”

The mother who received the gifts said “On behalf of my children and I we are humbled by the fact that in times like these God was gracious enough to smile upon our family so much that we were chosen by The Cabinet Office to be given the Christmas that the children deserved. Yes, while I recognize as a Mom it is our responsibility to ensure balance, happiness and safety for our children, at times just to provide the simplest pleasure can be at times challenging. It is truly in this case “A Village” raising a family. With sincere appreciation and much gratitude we are humbled and would like sometime in our journey to return the blessing to a family in a time of need should we get in that position.”
