Firefighters Respond: Small Closet Fire

December 10, 2010

Last night [Dec 9] a small closet fire in a lower apartment caused some minor damage to the Bailey’s Bay residence, fortunately there were no reported injuries.

The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 6:38 pm from 180 North Shore Rd/Bay View Drive. Firefighters from the Clearwater Fire Station responded six minutes later with one fire truck, along with two support vehicles and six personnel.

Upon arrival they found a closet on fire in a lower apartment of a two-storey dwelling, and two firefighters in breathing apparatus extinguished the fire in a matter of minutes. Lieutenant Dana Lovell [in video] said that the fire crews worked very well under a very smoky environment.

The fire was confined to the closet, with both heat and smoke damage to the closet, and minor smoke damage just outside of the closet. Officials say the fire is not thought to be suspicious in nature, however it is under investigation to determine the exact cause.
