Former Prosecutor Bailed on Murder Charge
Former Bermuda prosecutor Lloyd Rayney has been granted bail in Australia where he is charged with killing his wife.
Mr. Rayney walked from court today [Dec 23] with his two teenage daughters, and told Australian reporters he was looking forward to defending his innocence as he left Western Australia’s Supreme Court.
The barrister, who worked at Bermuda’s Department of Public Prosecutions in 2003/4, was charged with the murder of his wife, Supreme Court registrar Corryn Rayney, two weeks ago.
Mr Rayney had been behind bars since he was arrested and charged on December 8.
Mr. Rayney, 48, was required to come up with $100,000 bail, as well as $100,000 provided by a third-party guarantor. He must report daily to a police station and also surrender his passport.
The lawyer has repeatedly denied any involvement in his 44-year-old wife’s death. Corryn Rayney vanished on August 7, 2007 after attending a dance class. Her body was discovered in a Perth park nine days later.
Police later named Mr Rayney as their “prime” and “only” suspect. He is suing Australian officials over that remark.

I feel worried for the girls, who is ensuring their safety should he decide it will be better for them not to witness their father being convicted of their mother’s murder? Guilty or not.
