February 11, 2011

Transport Minister Terry Lister announced increased payouts for those hurt by uninsured or hit-and-run drivers under the Motor Insurance Fund. “The fund is really an important facility that makes it possible for those who otherwise would be left on the side of the road, unable to pay for their own treatment,” said the Minister.

The Minister said the fund, established in 1990, will now provide up to $375,000 to those injured by drivers without insurance coverage or drivers who cannot be identified. Mr. Lister also said up $750,000 will be available when multiple people are injured in a single accident. The new payouts are 50% higher than those previously available under the fund.
