peanut-butter-jelly-sandwichHotel Interactive Charities, a U.S. based organization, hosted the Great Peanut Butter and Jelly Team Competition on March 28th to benefit the Eliza DoLittle Society’s Daily Bread program.

The teams, volunteers attending the Luxury 2011 Conference, competed in assembling the most peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in thirty minutes. The event had 1,259 sandwiches.

Richard Viola, President & CEO, Hotel Interactive, told attendees, “We all have a responsibility to help those in need and because of our efforts today – someone will not go hungry tonight.”

After much fan fare and celebration, the sandwiches were distributed to families throughout Bermuda using Eliza DoLittle’s network of community organizations and volunteers.

Speaking on behalf of the agency, Executive Director, Margaret Ward, said “This event was one of a kind! It not only gave us the opportunity to bridge international waters but it also fostered better relations with Bermuda’s charities.”

She went on to say, “I would like to thank everyone involved especially Hotel Interactive Charities, Smuckers for donating the peanut butter and jelly, and the Fairmont Hotel for providing all of the bread for today’s sandwiches. Without such wonderful community support we could not help those in need every day.”

In addition to the sandwiches, Hotel Interactive Charities donated $4,435.00 to the Eliza DoLittle Society. Hotel Interactive Charities is a partnership between BITAC and Hotel Interactive. The organization was created to foster charitable activities in support of organizations related to the hospitality and tourism industries. The Daily Bread program is dedicated to eliminating hunger and reducing food wastage in Bermuda by delivering fresh, surplus food to those in need. The Eliza DoLittle Society is a registered Bermuda charity whose aim is to feed and otherwise care for needy people.

The Eliza DoLittle Society thanked local donors; BGA, Hunts, Barritts and Dunkley’s, who donated drinks & snacks.
