HSBC & TEDS Annual Feeding Programme

In partnership with The Eliza DoLittle Society [TEDS], an estimated 400 staff members of HSBC Bermuda are getting set to volunteer to help cook hot meals at St. John’s Church Hall and distribute grocery hampers to members of the community.

A spokesperson said, “In partnership with The Eliza DoLittle Society, HSBC Bermuda’s workforce strive to address the issue of food insecurity in Bermuda. Since the programme’s inception in 2016, HSBC employees have helped to distribute over 27,000 meals to the community and volunteered an estimated 3,600 hours of company time in support of this initiative.

“From February to July 2020, an estimated 400 staff members, organised into fifty-five teams will volunteer between 9am – 12pm, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week, helping to cook hot meals from St. John’s Church Hall and distribute grocery hampers from The Eliza DoLittle’s Food Bank to members of the community.”

Clesia Pachai, Community Investment Manager, HSBC Bermuda, said, “HSBC colleagues continue to demonstrate their comimitment to our community through their participation in important programmes such as the Feeding Programme.

“On average, 82% of our workforce have volunteered in this inititiave by either preparing hot meals or compiling grocery hampers which are then distributed to the food insecure members of our community. Over the past three years our staff volunteers have witnessed first-hand the increased demand for food provisions in our community and how important and impactful their contributions are to this critical social issue.

“The bank continues to also address the root cause of this issue namely socio-economic inequity in our community through supporting programmes which also help foster employability, financial literacy and entrepreurship across Bermuda.”

April Augustus, Executive Director of The Eliza DoLittle Society, said, “I am excited about the continued partnership with HSBC. The energy and passion that the team brings is truly heartwarming. The team has been intimately involved in giving more than 150 hampers to our senior clients during the holiday season last year.

“They are currently assisting our team at TEDS in preparing over 100 meals every Tuesday and over 100 hampers daily at the food bank. HSBC has been extremely supportive of The Eliza DoLittle Society. We are happy they joined us again for the Feeding Programme.
