Victor Scott: Computers & Fruit Smoothies
Government “recycled” several refurbished computers from the Information Technology Office [ITO], giving them to Victor Scott Primary School this past Thursday [Mar.31], at a presentation attended by Victor Scott Principal Valerie Williams, Rev. Dr. Lanel Guyton as well as some of the school students.
“It is pleasure as Minister to continue to support the Recycled Computer programme that was established by the PLP Government,” Minister Butterfield said. “The objectives of the programme are to recycle computers that have reached the end of life from a Government operational standpoint, but still have value and life left in them and pass these computers on to those who have a need, especially the after-school programmes in our schools and community.”
The Minister said life without a computer in these modern times of the Internet is like living without a phone or TV, but noted more importantly, a computer has become a tool for education. “It is especially gratifying when my passion, my profession and my responsibilities as a Minister all line up,” Minister Butterfield said.
The Ministry of Government Estates and Information is planning to give more refurbished computers to other schools around Bermuda who will benefit from this recycling initiative. “As an educator, these computers will realize their greatest value – investing in the youth and future of Bermuda,” Minister Butterfield said.
After the computer presentation, Bernews visited a nearby classroom where a science and nutrition lesson was taking place in the form of demonstrating the making of fruit smoothies, which was being greeted by great enthusiasm by the students.
This is great for VSS
Schools should not be getting hand-me-downs. Every effort should be made to provide our students with the best and most current materials needed for the student’s development and success.
I agree ! With all the “stuff” happening around VSS, its refreshing to see smiles on these precious faces. Keep up the great work VSS teachers!!
Thanks Bernews!!
