BBFS Football Coaches Attend Canada Clinic

May 17, 2011

Bermuda Brazilian Football School coaches [Jaylen Symonds-Bean, Jenay Bailey-Edness and Cal Blankendal] attended the Coerver Youth Diploma Clinic in Oakville, Canada on May 14th and 15th with 41 coaches from the greater Ontario area in attendance. The two day seminar focused on both classroom sessions with a core focus on practical training.

Jenay Bailey Edness, Jaylen Symonds Bean with Chelsea FCLegend Charlie Cooke co founder of Coerver and head of Coerver NorthAmerica

The class room sessions touched on subjects from training schedules, psychological matters when dealing with children, social conflicts and selecting the right drills and training times for your specific age groups. The core theme was developing players from U5 to U17 and beyond.

Charlie Cooke, a Chelsea FC legend, cofounder and Head of Coerver North America, led the 2 day clinic and provided a wealth of knowledge on both the grassroots and professional game. There was core focus on attacking play and the technical skill sets and tactical decision making required. The sessions evolved from attacking play to pressure defense and 1v1 to 4v4 phases of play.

The sessions were very intense as Brett Mosen had invited the new PDL franchise of Hamilton FC to act as players during the drills. The coaches were also invited to participate and Jenay Bailey-Edness and Jaylen Symonds-Bean had an opportunity to showcase their skills.

Such was there performance and conduct that they received a standing ovation on more than one occasion, as they held their own against the semi-pro male players. At the end of Day #1 Mr Cooke, singled them out for their work rate and technical ability in front of the 41 coaches.

Jaylen Symonds-Bean and Jenay Bailey-Edness have been with BBFS for almost 2 years and this course served as part of their development program. They will be tasked with preparing the BBFS U12/U13 girls for their 12 day tour to Europe this summer, with the assistance of Cal Blankendal. The BBFS trio have been invited to attend the first ever Coerver Advanced Diploma course, which will be held sometime during the next 12-18 months.

Is it just me or is there anyone else out there that finds Calvin Blankendal’s role as a partner in the commercially driven enttity, the Bermuda Brazilian Football School, a massive conflict of interest as he also sits on the Bermuda Football Association Executive. At a time when the BFA are struggling to find sufficient funds to run their programs for everyone in football, they are in compettion with a commercially driven entity run by a senior BFA executive for sponsorship dollars. Is this not an issue for the BFA? Or are they just following the example set by those senior folks at the ethically bankrupt organizations, Concacaf and FIFA.

    • Dude, took the words right out of my mouth.. I have been wondering for some time why this guy never speaks on BFA matters, however he pops up everywhere, and I mean everywhere, promoting his for profit, Bermuda, Dutch, English, Brazilian, Tibetan, Mumbai, UN football program.

Yeah and on the subject of multi cultural football, how does one teach samba football via a UK outfit and be deemed credible? It is a huge, massive contradiction. Oxymoron even.

      • Final comment on this being, why is it that the BFA have absolutely nothing to say of substance on football matters, unless it is informing us of who attended a FIFA or CONCACAF seminar/ meeting/ election?

If I read one more promo of how football has benefitted our Execs as opposed to how they have assisted local football, I think I will have do the unthinkable,ie. sign up for Blakendals multi confusing football program. Become a sponsor even..

Greetings Bob and Bob the Builder, this is Cal Blankendal. Just to clear up some matters if its okay.

    1. BBFS is a listed charity 890, thus not for profit
    2. We are independent and no longer connected to the UK Franchise. The Brazilian training is our base but we believe in a international concept of football.
    3. I served s the CEO and still do of BBFS prior to returning as the BFA 1st VP.
    4. I serve as the Chair of Infrastructure and work on those matters with clubs fencing, field work etc also on governance and you will hear about that shortly.
    5. You can call me on 505-7999 if you wish to enquire for any further info.

Always open to talk about football or any other topics.

    Regards,

    Cal Blankendal – 505-7999

Thanks for the clarification Calvin. Now for persons like me what would really put this matter to bed and very helpful is if you can point us to how we can find a copy of your Annual report; which hopefully shows that you do not receive a salary and the vast majority of sponsorship finds goes to improving football.
It would also be helpful for you to provide us with some details for why we haven’t seen tangible evidence of any work done by your committee. It has been 8 months since you and your new executive and committee took office. From what we have read from the BFA’s previous business plan those initiatives that you mentioned where planned prior to your arrival,
    Thanks

    • Cal Blankendal says:

      Greetings Baffled,

The annual report once the year end is completed will be open to all as it is public information. That will also show that there is no salary for the executives. Tangible evidence is subjective and once the annual report is completed (year end is April 30th) after the audit.

      Regards,

      Calvin 505-7999 24/7

Calvnio – Maybe the President of the BFA should explain why his 1st VP is allowed to run what is in short a parallel org. …needs to explain why it isn’t seen as a conflict of interest..particularly when his 1st VP is able to find sponsors while the BFA is unable to enter the Olympic qualifiers due to a lack of funding..

    • Cal Blankendal says:

      Greetings Red,

The BFA affiliates elected me to be the 1st VP with the knowledge that I was already the CEO of BBFS. It was full disclosure and the affiliates elected me. In short, I can always be removed by the affiliates as it is a democratic organization. You may not hear me but work is done to seek funding, partners etc. We have various chairs and are all tasked with the work at hand.

Always open for a direct chat.

      Cal 505-7999

  5. Red says:

Oh and Calvinio, where is the BFA’S plan? Seriously, when can we see it or where can we find it?

    • Cal Blankendal says:

      Red,

Plus minus 4 weeks and you (Bermuda) will see the plan.

Again, always open for a chat 505-7999.

      Cal Blankendal

Glad to know that we have some very interested football fans etc left!

CLosed topic for me and feel free to call me on any further concerns. We can get much done face to face as football brings us all together.

      • Red says:

Geez..9 months in power and you will finally have a plan. WOW!

Will we see the annual report as well?

  6. Baffled says:

    No Sir,
Tangible evidence is objective! It has been, I will state again, 8 months for all of us in football waiting for you plan. An entire season has passed without one!!!!!!! Stop with the BS!!!!!!!!!
