June 22, 2011

burglar photoOnly one day after a man was hospitalized after breaking into a home and being confronted by the occupant, there has been another case of an intruder being confronted after breaking into a residence.

A man wearing a full face helmet broke into a Hamilton parish home last night [June 21], and was confronted by the residents. A struggle ensued, however the intruder managed to escape on a motorcycle with a laptop.

A Police spokesman said, “Around 10pm on Tuesday, police responded to a reported burglary at a Long Lane, Hamilton parish residence.”

“It appears that around 9:50pm that day an unknown intruder gained entry into the home and was confronted by the occupants. A struggle ensued; however the intruder managed to make good his escape on a motorcycle with a laptop computer. The occupants were not injured.”

“The suspect is described as a slim black male in his 40s with a low beard, wearing a full face helmet. Officers searched the surrounding area for the culprit but he was not located.”

“Inquiries into this incident are underway. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.”

  8. Rick Rock says:

Still no explanation as to why the police detained the previous homeowner who fought the intruder. So when one of these thugs comes in your house, if they get hurt, are the police going to blame the occupant?

  9. James S says:

It is not just happening in Bermuda, a burglar was stabbed to death in Manchester last night.

i think it’s time for me to get the Doberman i’ve always wanted. u’d think he’d have more sense after what happened to the guy round middle town. my question is…how did he manage to get away if he was confronted?

  11. joonya says:

I have an aluminum t-ball bat and short machete under my bed, each very easy to retrieve and handle due to their length. I pray one of these fools does not try break into my house while Im sleeping. He will leave with either a very bad headache, or no head at all!! Its his gamble…

  12. tell me what to do says:

So tell me Police what do we do if we find someone in our house some hour in the morning. So if we kick his ass will you come and arrest us. Please advise so that we know our rights. PS. I have a ROTTWEILLER and a Baseball so bring it on you house breakers.

  13. GPS says:

The Police need to go to every Roaming Crackhead and warn them of the dangers of breaking and entering and that it’s likely they will be killed upon entry into a house they not supposed to be in!!

  14. Ya killin' me! says:

Nothing wrong with a little poetry :-)
But on a serious note these burglers are really getting out of hand, I see more beat downs in the future.

  15. People's Poet says:

This beating caused quite the storm
But burglars you know you’ve been warned
    Break in a house
    Things might just go south
As these beatings become quite the norm

        They’re nothing you see
        I really could not give a ****

    • White Christ says:

      LOL You’re earning your name!

  16. Clafe says:

this is y we dnt need police dun,

THINK ABOUT IT…if arryone would just b like this safe bredren n take it upon demselves 2 beat up guyz who rob there houses, we culd completely cut de police force from d budget…this is a FACT, PPL.

my great Uncle Sodium Knees said 1 time back n de day he was just sittin home FLEXIN like, n den sum burglar broke thru his window and climbed inside. unc was like “AY BIE, whatchu doin?” n de burglar wuz like “Robbin ya house, dun…where’s ya jewelry to?”. Unc almos told him but den realized it was a trick, so then he was like “ima break ya knees with a cricket bat, dun”. Sure enough, the burglar waited while Unc went out 2 de garage, got de cricket bat, then came back an smashed his kneecaps. When Unc called de cops dey were like “oh hello Mr. Knees…ya, we’ll be dere to pick him up n take him 2 de station in FOUR DAYS…have a nice day!” Unc didn’t feel like waitin 4 days wif a burglar in his house, so he physically dragged him all de way 2 hamilton station (from Country, so he wuz tired). When he got dere, there wuz a sign on de door sayin “Out 2 Lunch – Back in SIX WEEKS”. Unc wuz fed up at that point so he just tied de burglar to a lamp post nearby and left him with a box of crackers (no water tho, he died 2 days later).

i guess de point um tryin 2 make is dat the police dont do ne thing, so y dont we just cut dem out d budget completely n let ppl get exercise by makin citizens arrest n draggin GUYZ 2 de station.

    WAKE UP PPL!

    • joonya says:

      Bye, doan-meykme-holla!!!
But seriously, we and all societies need police authority.
And dont blame the BPS because your Premier chopped up their budget… you see?

    • LOL!@clafe says:

Clafe, I wish I had your creativity! I’m trying not to burst into laughter over here…

      • FYI-Just A Thought says:

@Clafe Literary Genius you as well People’s Poet. At least the humour distracts one from some of the OTT comments. As for Uncle Sodium Knees I think he should invest in a bit of lotion or moisturizer… LOL

In any event, it would be much easier if citizens/Bermudians did their part as most homeowners have been forced to to when confronting perps. On the other hand, let’s think of the police as ADMINISTRATORS. They can’t protect and serve when they’re too busy doing back logged paperwork.

  17. Time To Install says:

When I moved into my apartment one of the first investments I made was in an alarm system. All landlords and tenants should discuss this in this day in age. When I sleep at night it is with peace of mind. When I leave my house during the day it is with peace of mind. So the question is….would you be willing to invest in peace of mind? I personally used Anderlin to get mine.

    • Alarm or no Alarm says:

Alarms are good, but does not always a deterrent, these crack fiends are desparate, I say destroy the drugdealers, the smugglers, and the shot callers in high and low places. Lets take not Alarm but arm ourselves not with just defensive mesures but offensive strategic planing, lets find out whats the cause for the great need to have things now, a laptop was stolen, ok thief maybe you can write a resume and get a job, but I suppose this was a crack head, smash up the drug rings , the dealers who brazenly deal dope on court street, smash down the doors,

      • Let's Think About This... says:

Crime goes up when supply is low…

  18. Hmmm.... says:

@ Clafe…What we supposed to do after we drop them at the station if there are no police there? They do a lot they dont get half the credit they deserve its people like you who shouldnt be aloud to write comments..Just saying…

  19. Not Surprised says:

@hmmm didn’t you read it ? Clafe’s “UNC” tied him to de lamp post! That’s what you do! LOL!

  20. Um juss sane says:

I have a Min-Pin that’s a live burglar alarm… She might sleep all day, but come nightfall she goes into security guard mode… any sound she hears outside warrants a full investigation… gets a bit annoying sometimes I admit, but hey, in this day and age you can’t be too cautious…

  21. SMDH LOL says:

PEOPLES POET KEEP IT GOING YO I LIKE YOUR POEMS,

AS FOR THESE FOOLS BREAKING INTO HOUSES OH THE LORD BETTER HELP THEM BECAUSE IF SOMEBODY TRIES TO BREAK IN MY HOUSE WHEN I’M HOME I’M CARVING THAT PERSON RIGHT UP AND I LOVE TO COOK SO I GOT A LOT OF SHARP TOOLS IN MY HOUSE AND I SLEEP WITH ONE UNDER MY PILLOW EVERY NIGHT TOO. THE HELL IF I’M GONNA LET SOMEBODY TAKE MY THINGS THAT I HAVE WORKED HARD FOR. SOONER OR LATER PEOPLE ARE GONNA HAVE GUNS IN THEIR HOUSES LIKE THEY LEGAL, YOU WATCH.

  22. US Observer says:

It’s simple..the Bda Government should send out a notice through the media letting the public know that if confronted by an intruder, the law will protect you (home occupier) if anything were to happen to the intruder.

This is clearly an opportunity for the BDA Govt and Police.

    • FYI-Just A Thought says:

If only it were that simple!

    • Bermette says:

I totally agree. An occupant should have the right to defend his/her home by any means necessary without repercussion from the law. In my opinion if someone breaks in your house you shoud have the right to kill them. When will the law change. We cannot blame the police for making arresting the hero for defending his family their job is to uphold the law not make it. Everybody call your MP’s and tell them to stop protecting the criminals and start protecting the law abiding citizen.

  23. SWEETBLACK says:

there are a lot of desperate people right now but that is not an excuse for these fools to do what they do. unfortunately it does not matter how tight you lock up your house these animals will find a way to break in. i ask the police what are we supposed to do? the sad realty of this is people are going to protect themselves at all cost.
