Seven People Injured In Somerset Car Accident

Emergency personnel responded to a report of an accident in Somerset early this evening [June 9]. Two cars were involved in a collision on Somerset Road, in the area of Hook and Ladder Lane.

Bystanders said they believed a number of people may have been injured, and at least two children were injured.

Both the Police and Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded, and tended to the injured persons until two ambulances attended the scene to transport the injured to King Edward Memorial Hospital. Details of their injuries are unknown at this time but we will update with official information when available.

Update 7:40pm: Somerset Road has now re-opened following the collision.

Update June 10: A Police spokesman said, “Around 6pm on Thursday, police attended a reported two vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Somerset Road in Sandys parish near the Arnold’s Supermarket.”

“It appears that two cars were traveling along Somerset Road, driven by a 31 year old Sandys parish woman and an 18 year old Pembroke man respectively, when they collided.”

“Including the drivers, there were two adults and three children in one vehicle and two adults in the other vehicle. All seven individuals were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for medical assessment and treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.”

“Both cars were extensively damaged as a result. Traffic was diverted away from the scene for approximately an hour and a half. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Cletus Cyris on 295-0011.

    I agree. What an insensitive comment to make people could have been seriously hurt and nobody is perfect.

    Charles, I agree, that was a very insensitive comment to make when you don’t know the details of the accident. Accidents do happen, unfortunate yes but they happen. And it may have been one person’s fault, not both drivers – in that case the accident may not have been avoidable.
