Results: BBA National Cycling Championships
Yesterday morning [June 19] the Bermuda Bicycle Association [BBA] held the RMS Construction Road Race Championship beginning and ending at Southside.
Both the Open and Junior Male races ended in sprints with Darren Glasford and Tre-shun Correia taking the titles, while Karen Bordage road away from the Open Women’s field and Gabriella Arnold won the Junior Female championship.
In the Open Male race Darren Glasford – from Winners Edge – out sprinted Christopher Faria from Fast Forward Freight Bicycle Works, while Damian Sharpe also from Fast Forward Freight Bicycle Works finished third.
In the Open Female race Karen Bordage from Winners Edge won, Stacey Babb finished second, and Earlena Ingham from Team Focus finished third. Stacey Babb was crowned National Champion as the title must be held by a Bermudian.
The riders raced on the open roads in the east end, escorted by the Police and the Bermuda Long Riders.The Open Male group’s course started with a 19 mile loop that left St David’s and went around Harrington Sound in an anti-clockwise direction and then out to St. David’s lighthouse before returning to Clearwater.
The subsequent 3 laps of 11 miles each went as far as Swizzle Inn round about and then back up to the lighthouse and down to the beach. The Open Female and junior categories used the 11 mile loop, 3 for the Junior Male group and 2 for both Open and Junior Female.
