Videos: Noel-Simmons Talks OBA & More
One time UBP candidate Devrae Noel-Simmons signed up online to join the newly created One Bermuda Alliance [OBA] this week after resigning as the UBP candidate for Warwick South Central, a seat he contested during the December 2010 Warwick South Central by-election, which was won by the PLP’s Marc Bean.
Last month Mr Noel-Simmons joined with others including UBP MPs Kim Swan and Charles Swan in a legal action seeking to stop the UBP from dissolving. Soon after that seven UBP MPs resigned from the party to join the OBA, leaving Kim Swan and Charles Swan as the only two UBP MPs. Bernews spoke with Mr Noel-Simmons last month after he joined in the legal action, and he said at that time he wasn’t against the BDA/UBP merger itself, as a divided Opposition is not ideal.
OBA Chairman Michael Fahy said, “The OBA’s membership is open to anyone who believes in the OBA’s values and putting Bermuda first. If you want and believe in change then you are welcome – that includes Mr Simmons.”
Today Mr Noel-Simmons said that, “At the end of the day, we need to figure out how to get this island back on top, get the island working, get our tourists back.” He said it is about putting the best team members forward, and he feels he should be considered as one of those team members.
“Get used to it Bermuda,” Mr Noel-Simmons said, “I am coming forward, and I am coming forward strong. I learned alot from being a UBP candidate, so I am hoping that I can put my best foot forward in getting this next step going so we can all move forward together.”
We also asked Mr Noel-Simmons about an unrelated, although much discussed issue – his distinctive mohawk hairstyle. He said there are a variety of styles and not everyone will look like everyone else, and that in the end what matters is integrity and striving forward.
Kill the mohawk, dude, yer too old for that!
for real, does he know how stupit it looks,,,
Yeah. Right or wrong, people won’t take you serious. All arguments to the contrary will fall on deaf ears. Before you do something eccentric, you have to prove yourself. Not the other way around. I understand the arguments going the other way, we shouldn’t judge etc etc., the reality is that we all judge. You have to deal with the reality not the ideal.
OMG Foghorn Leghorn give it a rest!
“I learned alot from being a UBP candidate”…really? Did you not learn that people don’t take you seriously because you don’t take them serious enough to represent them without looking like a cock i.e. rooster?
“so we can all move forward together.”……….really? How are you gonna help us move forward ‘together’ and you can’t even bring the right side and left side of your scalp together? lol
Naughty.
Gotta love your comments White Christ…oh and contrary to believe alot of people take me seriously because I am on the front line watching seing how it all unfolds in that witching hour. Seeing kids walking up and down the street hovering around the bars because they dont want to go home…so I say to you White christ what are your solutions??? We are all listening with open ears n arms wide open…
It’s not even about killing the mohawk, but having it coloured like that how does he expect anyone to take him seriously?
Laying the Mohawk aside, is Mr. Simmons even relevant in Bermuda politics? I don’t mean this in a mean spirited way but I get the impression that it is more of a side show than an event. Sort of like Donald Trump. He is interesting to watch but no one takes him serious….. Come to think of it, his hair style was a distraction too..
Damn—–Thought we had seen the last of him!
No sorry Rockfish…get used to it! But then with a name like that no wonder your stuck and easily caught!
There was a time when this type of manouver worked. The UBP is dead and basically they used him. He had good intentions and I am sure he is a great guy with Bermuda’s interests at heart. I say to Mr. Simmons, move on. Your work ethic and community involment means more.
We all can’t be in politics but we are. Irony eh?
Take care of your family, teach them well, be whom you are and I couldn’t ask for more. I now how you feel, but judging books without reading them has been histories most flaygrant mistakes.
A great day to all and ironically…may the “MO-Hawk” be with you…..Jingus …lass tyme eye cauled a guy a “MO” dey shut mighy cousin……….
Closed minded fewls, the lot of ya. I don’t care what the guy looks like, and in this day and age, we should all take that stance. If he wants to help Bermuda, and move us forward, LET HIM and stop worrying about his hair. Get used to the fact that THE WORLD IS CHANGING and always has been and just because you aren’t used to it, doesn’t mean it’ll politely stop, just for you.
Respect Devrae, I hope you bring some fresh ideas to the current state of politics in Bermy.
Think about this: Every female politician in Bermy most likely spends twice to three times as much as Mr. Simmons on their hair, dyes/perms/extensions, call it what you want. Guys with dreads have way more time invested in their hair.
Really, he just has the balls to do what all of you won’t.
Bie stoppit Devrae!
Well he would not have been invited, that’s for sure. All in all I give him credit for wanting to get involved. Now Devrae let’s here solutions to the issues you think you can solve. You might just get the job done.
Oooooh….Dearrrrrrrrr.. *in voice of Mr Snuffleupagus*
