26-Yr-Old Man Arrested & Loaded Gun Recovered
Early this morning [July 25] the Police arrested a 26-year-old man after a vehicle pursuit, and seized a gun – which was loaded.
A Police spokesman said, “At 2am on Monday 25th July, Police responded to a report of a disturbance at a South Road, Southampton establishment.”
“Police were alerted to a 26 year old Southampton man who was acting suspiciously. At the conclusion of a short vehicle pursuit, the man and his vehicle were detained and searched, following which a loaded firearm was seized. He was arrested and detained pending further police investigations. There were no injuries reported.”
“This recovery brings the number of firearms seized so far this year to six, and once again demonstrates the resolve of the BPS to make Bermuda safer and ensure we have a safe and enjoyable holiday.”
“Anyone with information relating to this incident – or any firearm in Bermuda – is encouraged to call the Serious Crime Unit (SCU) on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.”

I don’t see how people can NOT be satisfied with the progress police have made in the past few months. Great work, BPS.
Because, the end results are starting to become very dissappointing. You should know that, you are a governmental figure. We the public are starting to notice a trend, police catch the criminals and when finally the person goes to trial, they either get off or a get a slap on the wrist. And its becuase the prosecution has so very little to work with, info which was provided by the BPS.
They are doing their jobs, let me clarify that, but its to the extent in which they are doing it. Either they are too excited over a bust which leads to them missing a step or some are just not trained enough to catch certain things. For example, all those marijuana seizures, did forensics attend the scene first and gather foot prints, finger prints?? Or did the BPS just charge in and say look BDA, we found something! Another one for you, why did they not do a stake out on these fields of marijuana and catch the culprets red handed?? This is common sense stuff that the BPS is not showing. We the public want to hear convictions, allegations of convictions.

I agree. A lot of high profile arrests and media laden seizures, but very few convictions. The BPS are doing a fine job of showboating, but they and the courts can’t really deliver the knockout blow.
This is great news..lets hope that however this gun arrived into Bermuda, it travelled alone and was not accompanied with its brothers or cousins. Regardless, this was a great catch.

The way you are talking you sound like a little youth! You think the police have jet engines? The minute a call comes out they will be there in seconds? First of all Im sure the person who made the call, called after the fight started. And quite frankly if they got there in 10mins that is pretty good especially if thet attended from town or Somerset. So they should come in sirens a blazin and try catch the person(s) involved they’ll just sit around and wait for police huh? It took them 10mins but still were able to catch a guy leaving the place and he had a gun in his possesion “allegedly” The problem with you little youths is that you just cant go out and have fun without fighting. This was indeed a good catch for the BPS and Bermuda as well. And while I am not trying to downplay that, my issue is this, when are the lawmakers and the courts going to get serious about amending or striking down old laws that are no longer applicable to the society we live in and get tough on these lot. If there are “bodies” or past shootings associated with this weapon after forensic testing, whomever this young man is should be held responsible for all those events. This is the only way to show how serious we as a community have become when it comes to keeping Bermuda a safe place.
In numerous cases that have recently come before the courts, there have been connect the dots with murders/shootings and the weapons used, and while there have been a string of conivictions, there are still so many unanswered questions.
If you are caught with a weapon that has links to the illegal activites taking place, and you dont want to “snitch” then you should be prepared to do the time for it, and I hope you enjoy being locked away, while your ACE boy enjoys life to the fullest until he joins you in Westgate.

First off, i am a very good friend of this individual. Yes carrying a gun was and is the stupidest thing he could have ever done, and to be honest I’m dissapointed in his actions. As to what happened that night he wasn’t even a suspect for the police for the altercation that occured, his actions were what alerted the police in his direction.
Again he is not the one to be involved in the whole fast lane track, but i saw him trying to be in that light, which i tried to advise him not to do. But yes there are many who want to be in the hype and trying to be something that they are not. It is unfortunate that he got caught out, and I’m pretty sure he was well aware of the consequences of leading that life. He is definitely going to be made an example of in the courts.
All i can say is that he shouldnt be in the category of the ” other young black males” he simply just got caught up in the wrong things, trying to be something that he’s not.
