BTFA Team Head To CAC Championships
Members of the Bermuda Track and Field Association departed Bermuda today [July 12] heading to the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Senior Track and Field Championships, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Bermuda’s athletes that departed the LF Wade International Airport included Lamont Marshall, Darico Clarke, Jasmine Brunson, Andrea Jackson and they will meet up with Tyrone Smith, Aaron Evans, Tre Houston, Arantxa King and Shianne Smith with coaches Devon Bean and Tamika Williams.
Smith who recently qualified for the Olympics will be competing in long jump while Evans fresh off a hamstring injury will compete in the 800m. Houston will be in the starter’s blocks for the 100 & 200 meters while Marshall will see action in the 1500 & 5000 meters and Clarke will compete in the 800 meters.
Heptathlon pair Smith and Jackson will compete in a marathon of events while King and Brunson will both compete in the long jump.
Bermuda Track and Field Association President Donna Watson said, “We are expecting some good performances out of our senior athletes and am looking forward to the competition.”
Watson will be departing on Thursday for NACAC elections. The NACAC Board President’s position is up for re-election as are all of the council positions.
Go get ‘em Bermy. You can do it. Wish I was there with you guys this year. For anyone that hasn’t been to Mayaguez, you will love the experience.
