Photos: Car Destroyed By Fire In Warwick
[Updated] Just past 6pm this evening [July 27] the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service responded to a report of a car on fire in the Rockland Estates, Warwick area. The fire appeared to have started out small in the engine of the car until it engulfed the entire car in flames, as pictured in the photo series below:
However the fire grew in size:
Till it eventually engulfed the car in flames:
Sending clouds of black smoke billowing over the neighbourhood:
The Bermuda Police Service was also on scene, and the car – as shown below – was completely destroyed:
We will update with official information as able

Sorry for the lost to the owner. As the pictures show and one of the fire safety service slogans states “Big fires start small”
My 30 yrs of service as a Bermuda firefighter has taught me that always having ready access to a portable fire extinguishers in the home, boat and cars (and more importantly knowing how to use them) can prevent many tragedies like this from escalating.
A $20 extinguisher can save you a $25,000 car.
Again sorry for the lost to the owner.
I agree on that one for sure.
Hmmn, so you mean to tell me someone stood and took time-lapse pictures of the car from the second the fire started till it was a marshmellow instead of trying to put it out? Way to go!
I was thinking the exact same thing!!! Either this, or news day was slow so someone had to purposely do this!!! Seems like the flame in the beginning photo could have been doused with a bucket of water, easily!!!!

How did that small fire in the engine bay destroy the entire car before the fire service reached it? Only two possibilities exist, either nobody called them and stood and watched while the car burned or the fire service response time is seriously flawed. The insurance company should investigate before deciding to pay out on this one.
Well Daz with some simple reasoning there are more than 2 possibilities that could be the reason
First of all unless that car fire was right outside of the fire station (or 5 mins away) 1) you are going to have serious damage because most likely it was a FUEL FED fire.
2) With the time of day and the Cupmatch prep there was a heck of a lot more traffic to contend with on the roads and we all kno that people do not all give way or respect emergency vehicles responding to incidents. I can write a book on that topic alone.
3) Insurance companies on occasions do investigate incidents like this but do you really want them to REJECT paying a claim out to YOU for someone else’s fault? You really don’t want to go down that road.
I agree! What fool stood there and took photos instead of trying to simply PUT OUT THE FIRE!!!
Sheeeesh!!
To Daz The fire service was called from two different locations and both had accidents way their way! Which delayed their arrivals n one of the owners was trying to figure out how to put the fire out, haven’t said that it’s a blessing to know that it happened after the children n other family members had been picked up and everyone home n not in the car
Anyone else see the garden hose in picture five? Just saying…
Actually…….trying to put out a “fuel fed” fire with water is not a smart thing to do. You’ll more than likely make the fire bigger. Remember that water contains oxygen and when the water evaporates from the heat it feeds the fire!
Thank you Malachi, for your common sense. I am so sick of people and their assumptions on why the fire wasn’t put out sooner. Do any of you know the circumstances, NO!! Thank goodness the family of ‘FIVE’ was out of the car safely !!!
That’s completely innaccurate … Water does not ‘feed’ a fire when it evaporates .. In case you’re not aware of it , water is made of two highly flammable elements …Hydrogen and oxygen ..if it ‘fed’ a fire why is it the most commmon fire fighting compound out there ?
Water happens to be the wrong extinguishing agent for a fire of gasoline , rubber compounds and fires of an electrical electrical nature , as an example.
An automobile fire accellerates much more quickly than fire of , say , pure organic compounds .. wood for example
There was however a very slight chance that had it been caught in the very initial stages a garden hose MIGHT have been able to douse it , but once electrical insulation begins to ignite and paint catches , and then fuel lines melt , it’s all over .
And to paraphrase what Arthur said.. don’t just carry the correct fire extinguisher , make sure you know how to use it correctly .
