Crown Witness Testimony Acquits Defendant

July 12, 2011

ZBM today [July 12] reported that Desmond Trott, 22, was acquitted of conspiracy to import drugs shortly after his trial started.

The defendant was charged with plotting to import more than $200,000 worth of cannabis.

When the Crown’s star witness took the stand, his evidence supported the position of the defense. At that stage, the Crown said it could not go on with the case.

The Supreme Court Judge in the case instructed the jury to find Mr. Trott, not guilty of all charges.

This judgement comes just one day after Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves instructed another jury in a Supreme Court trial to find defendants, Jah’mico Trott, 23, and Dunn-yah Taylor, 22, not guilty of all charges for allegedly attempting to murder David Godwin on September 23, 2010.

The message this week is again that if you want to smoke some weed, or shoot someone, do it in a big way. Get a witness then at Supreme Court trial have the witness forget everything. Meanwhile, for 1 gram and on the “word” of a policeman/woman, a “word” that cannot be challenged, otherwise law abiding Bermudians are convicted in Magistrates Court. Bermuda is going downhill faster and faster.

    Time for some fresh juidges!!!!

    • FutureLawyer says:

Its not the Judges its the prosecutions weak cases.

      • Warrior 1 says:

Bda’s Dept.of Prosecutions couldn’t convict someone even if the crime was committed right in front of them….It’s a SHAME SHAME SHAME

  3. Case gone Wrong says:

Another case gone wrong…..At this rate, westgate will be empty and the criminals will be running the streets freely. Bermuda are you ready? Has anyone seen ROss Kemp War on Gangs tv show…he mingles with mobsters, criminals, murderers, and gangs…they tell him all there is to know. Who supplies the guns, who runs the streets, and how criminal activity will never cease because they run the police. Soon Ross Kemp will be visiting Bermuda. ANd when he visits, its not to talk about the pretty beaches…he only goes to places where it is flagged dangerous or comparable to other dangerous countries. If Bermuda makes his list..you can kiss the tourist good-bye. This is a big show and well watched. He is a reputable jounalist!

    • get out of bermy!! says:

iv seen his show n the first thing that came 2 my mind was “when is he gona visit Bermuda!”

    • Speak Truth says:

Looks to me like another case that SHOULD NEVER HAVE GONE TO COURT, from what I read, the Prosecutor could see the evidence was shabby, it should have never gone to court to begin with. So all you Bernews commentors leave people alone and talk about something to make a positive difference in our Island. Do you think visitors read Bernews I think they do??? Let’s be positive and get our tourist back for goodness sake !!!!!!!!!!

  4. Free Thinker says:

Really people if the police and prosecution did better jobs you may get better results. But would they be considered civil servants, that may exsplain a lot.

    • Hmmmmm says:

No, they are not civil servants. Remember when you all got bent out of shape when someone asked for more control of the Police? Well if they were civil servants they’d be accountable for this stuff. They’re not so they ain’t. Complaints to be sent to 11 Langton Hill attn. Sir Richard.

Who will change their statement next?

    • Speak Truth says:

Statements don’t change once they get to court, it’s already in writing that’s it – learn the law or keep quiet.

  8. ME says:

    CUAZE HIS BRAH A COP

    • Speak Truth says:

If you all had half a brain – well a quarter of a brain, you would know that you cannot convict somebody without evidene. WHO you are has NOTHING to do with it once you get to court, that’s it. The system has to prevail. Learn how the system works before making dumb comments. ALL PEOPLE are INNOCENT until proven guilty – if you don’t have evidence then you must aquit. Let people live their lives in peace and quiet. The justice system is in place for a reason. And BERNEWS you ought to watch what you allow to be posted as defamation of character laws are in effect also. It would be nice if people started talking positive and encourage one another – too much black on black hate out there.

  10. Desmond whole your head up high, the comments reflects the ignorance which prevails amongst us Bermudians, the less than favorable statements appear to be rooted in hatred.
