St George’s Holds The Lead – On Facebook
With less than 48 hours to the start of Cup Match, St George’s holds the lead – on Facebook that is. Last week Bermudians started to declare their team pride, with blue/blue and red/blue badges popping up on profile photos all over the social network.
As of this writing [July 26] St George’s is in the lead with 1,152 supporters, while Somerset follows close behind with 1,032 supporters. St George’s fans on Facebook can add a blue/blue profile badge by clicking here, and Somerset fans can add the red/blue badge here.
Somerset’s team for the 2011 Cup Match Classic includes Jekon Edness as Captain, Stephen Outerbridge as Vice Captain, Dion Stovell, Terryn Fray, Janeiro Tucker, Malachi Jones, Joshua Gilbert, Kamau Leverock, Kevin Hurdle, Jacobi Robinson and last year’s MVP Deunte Darrell. Reserves will be Kamal Easton, Shaquille Jones, and Tre Manders.
St. George’s will be represented by Captain Oronde Bascome, Vice Captain Rodney Trott, Jason Anderson, OJ Pitcher, Lionel Cann, Delyone Borden, Stefan Kelly, Damali Bell, Fiqre Crockwell, Justin Pitcher and Allan Douglas, with reserves Onias Bascome, Lateef Trott and Shea Pitcher.
Last year Cup Match ended in a draw, which was the fourth year in a row the match has ended in a draw, with the last time one side won being 2006 when St George’s won by 7 wickets.
If this years match ends in a draw again – something most fans of both the east and west hope doesn’t occur – it will make the longest period of consecutive draws in Cup Match history, equaling a stretch in the 1970s when the match ended in a draw for five consecutive years.
