Anthony Santucci Employed As Consultant

August 4, 2011

Anthony Santucci CADAAnthony Santucci has been employed by Government as a consultant for a period of four months, during which he will assist with road safety legislative changes.

This evening [Aug.4] Minister of Transport Terry Lister said, “Mr. Santucci is to be a consultant for a period of four months assisting with legislative changes in the area of road safety.”

“As everyone in Bermuda knows, he has been chair of CADA for a number of years and surely everyone would understand that he has expertise that will be of real benefit to the Ministry.”

In June 2011, Mr Santucci announced that he was taking a leave of absence from his position as PLP Chairman, and also lost his job as the food and beverage manager at the Grotto Bay Resort. He presently serves as Chairman of CADA, a position he has held for a number of years.

Update Aug.5: In a strange turn of circumstances, Cabinet Secretary Donald Scott released a statement today saying, “It is categorically untrue that Mr. Santucci has been engaged by the Ministry of Transport.” Details here.

Is Lister saying that noone on the Government payroll can do this job? If he is,a number of civil servants do not possess the qualifications they claim to have!
Sure looks like another payoff to me!

  2. Shut Yo Mouth... says:

Paula….When will you let go of that damn Shovel … O.k , O.k , from now on only Zane is allowed to handle the shovel , he definitely has the experience over you in the hole digging business .

  3. Rob says:

I think you will make a great consultant. Hope you are making six figures, that’s what friends are for!

  4. C-King Clarity says:

    Hmmm….
As a CONSULTANT on matters of legilation on Road Safety, shouldn’t he hold qualification or have a proven track record in the fields of legistlation, legislative change and/or road safety?

    Oh, wait….. nudge-nudge. Wink-wink. Say n’more, say n’more.

  5. Watching! says:

    Simply amazing!

  6. G Bell says:

Jobs for the boys – we get it! Get fired – no problem – go work for Gummint!

  7. Wow says:

How does a man with no legislative or legal back ground get hired in a legal or consultative role. This is sad and scary. Hotel, CADA……legislation???? That is usually a draftsman (lawyer or someone with law background)

    Watching

    • Rockfish#1and2 says:

Hell—we have a convicted armed robber as a consultant, so this is not surprising.

And to think Lister is a Premier wannabe.

  8. Just Curious says:

When will Bermuda Tea Party Rise UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Eyes wide Open says:

I don’t understand how a person who was let go from their previous job (hotel industry), stepped down from a chairmanship (PLP party), and continues to chair a govt quango (CADA) is in anyway qualified to write legislation?

What about the road safety council? What do they do with legislation? Thought they take ideas to the ministry?

What about the road safety guy – - Minors? what is he doing? I haven’t seen him in awhile – does he still work there?

This just doesn’t make any sense to me.

  10. Organic Bermudian says:

Totally AMAZING how this happens When will We take a STAND???? How do you JUSTIFY this position??? I wish I had FRIENDS in HIGH PLACES!! Instead I have to really on worth and SELLING myself with resumes’, cover letters and reference letters which MAY or MAY NOT be RESPONDED to by bogus ADVERTS not looking to employ me hard working, reliable, trustworthy, drug-free being!! ARGHHH!!! This IRRATES ME!!

  11. (sigh) says:

guess the guy needs employment that he CAN’T get fired from – wonder what made up job they will give him once the four months are up

the question is not WHO he knows but WHAT he knows that THEY don’t want joe public to know…think about it

  12. Ross says:

Mr Santucci needs to spend time in a dimly lit room chatting to a shrink about why he keeps leaving every hotel he has ever worked in.

Lister and others are well aware of his vices and his continued presence in high profile roles speaks volumes about the PLP..VOLUMES!!!

  13. Excellent! says:

We are bankrupt but find money for this guy? The arrogance of the PLP is simply amazing! You keep spending and simply do not care about your own black people!

  14. Simply Confused says:

So explain- The chairman of the PLP Party [edited for legal reasons], was “let go” from Grotto Bay, Resigned from his PLP post, everything is hush hush in regards to these incidences so much so you havn’t even heard anything, then he is GIVEN a post created for him in Government? What the ?????? PLP needs an over-haul and Terry Lister needs to go. He is incompetence at best. He does not need anyone to write legislation in that Department when he already has staff that is being paid to do legislation. Ministre Lister seems to be placing people around him like pawns in a chess match. Those close to him should be looked at with a fine tooth comb. Guaranteed Santucci wont be the only one that is of that character!

  15. Dogberry says:

CADA’s remit is responsible alcohol consumption, and they have been at the fore front of training the bar staff and Mr. Santucci’s qualifications are all in the hospitality industry!!!!! How in gods name does this make Mr. Santucci qualified to assist in writing legislation relating to road safety.

Yet again, regular bermudians get the shaft while the party inner circle get looked after, I have voted for what I thought was my party long enough, call the election soon Paula cause me and the people are going to show you what they think of the job you’re doing, and no amount of racial rabble rousing is going to save the PLP this time.

OBA please stop criticising, and please present a platform for people to get behind. Just being critical of gov’t policy is not the only job of an opposition.

    • star man says:

It’s not the OBA’s responsibility to give this ignorant gov’t any ideas by way of a “platform.” Yet. And the OBA’s gotta stop answering questions from the PLP. THEY are the ones who ask the questions and criticise the Gov’t in the House, NOT the PLP!

  16. Looking says:

I am confused as hell, on one hand you are getting Rid of Bermudian consultants and keeping the Foreigner. Now you hiring someone for four months I have no problem with you hiring him but one particular Quango has a foreigner and you get rid of 11 Bermudians.

I am going to drink some swizzle

    • Watching! says:

And paid extremely well at that having produced nothing new!

  17. Notorious says:

Maybe he could help @bermyshotta land a job long enough to stop following me and stop robbing people.

  18. Mike says:

Utterly disgraceful of the PLP. They couldn’t sink much lower than this.

    • C-King Clarity says:

Watch closely. That’s the only type of challenge the PLP can rise to – one that lowers the bar.

  19. star man says:

Why would the PLP hire one of the creepiest guys around as a so-called consultant? It’s another lie. He must have some serious “goods” on our wondrous Gov’t!

It’s time to tell the PLP what we really think of them! And kick them out of power!

    Karma is real, Paula.

  20. navin johnson says:

ok ..road safety……obey the speed limit, don’t pass on a yellow line, don’t drink and drive….wear a helmet ….don’t talk and drive…dont’t text and drive…….am I missing anything….wait I have another 4 months to come up with more stuff….just keep shoving it down peoples throats….does it ever end?

  21. Cleancut says:

Congrats to him, hope he is making six figures! That’s what friends are for!

  22. Corruption says:

I hope the British come in to take over soon.

How can you get removed from 3 hotels and then get a consultng job in a time of austerity.

I hope when public finally “rise up” against this joke government people dont say its because whites dont like blacks, their usual crutch for pathetic performance

    • Ross says:

They will because as incompetent as this Govt have been much of the impetus for ousting them is racial…

  23. Transparency says:

Hw much is Mr Santucci being paid?

    Surely this is Public Information?

  24. Reset the Dial says:

So much for accountability and all that sexy stuff that was promised to us on 28 October 2010 – I await the demise of our current Leader.

Oh no, dont tell me the Party cant handle another Leadership Challenge.

When will progressive Bermudians step up without fear of being victimised, or getting that call that their mortgage is now “On Demand”.

We really need to take a page from what has happened in Arab Sprng and Tea Party and recalibrate our own country to really re-set the dial.

Current PLP Leader is a complete joke drunk on the attention she is getting after being ignored for so many years. Sad when country held hostage by an ego.

  25. Libel says:

Isnt this the Guy who was supposedly dismissed from Hotels Previously?

    Why?

First Senator Furbert catches work for “Loyalty”, now this Puppy

(BARK BARK!!) A job for me too Boss.

  26. hogwash says:

    Lets re-set the Dial!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. soon leavin' says:

Generally this type of hush money has been paid out under the table…

  28. second says:

Four months? Is the shorter term supposed to make us feel better? For goodness sake!!! Come on Mrs Premier show some …….. fortitude! This has passed ridiculous and is most embarassing for a country such as ours.

  29. B, a Lady says:

Do not spend time writing. Instead, spend time studying how you will vote. Channel your anger, and effort, toward an intelligent, meaningful vote rather than a vote based on race and emotion. This appointment, for me, is the final straw. This government just told me they can, and will, do whatever they want, when they want. They have taken me for granted far too long. Now, I will return the favor.

    • Pat Ferguson says:

To B a Lady: You are on the right tract.
Better still, those of you who are unhappy with this Government, why not put your feet to the street. This Government needs to be stopped before they drive us completely under.

Why not march on Government House to voice your disapproval on what Premier and crew are doing? We sat back and let Ewart Brown get off with God knows what – are we going to do the same again with this leadership? And to think I thought Terry Lister would have made a better Premier than Paula Cox!

If this Government was working in the private sector, they all would have been fired years ago – and by firing them i.e. voting them out of office, will be only way to get rid of them. But, if you are afraid to stand up for good governance because you don’t want your face to be shown then sit down and shut up and you deserve what you get.

I have written to the Governor, and I have written to England, but for some reason, nothing gets done. We should have had a Royal Commission of Inquiry done a long time ago as they had in Turks and Caicos, but no, the Governor said, it had not come to that and that there were 2 or 3 investigations going on concerning Ewart Brown at the moment. I wonder what happened to those investigations.

Someone wrote a comment in the RG asking how to start a petition – call me, I’ll tell you how. It is time we took our dissatisfaction to Government House. What is wrong with us that we let people walk all over us – are we so stupid? We are the ones paying their salaries, and they are the ones that should be listening to us. We hire them, they don’t hire us. We have to get rid of this Government. They are killing this island! Let’s stop talking and let’s start walking!

  30. The Architect says:

    This is crazy!

  31. Terry says:

This is like watching the Young and the Rasslass…..and I haven’t had time to watch TV for almost 20 years………..

    Blame the UBP…

Friends and Family? Or Family Fued………Reminds me of the Toyota commercial….”You ask for it…..

    • C-King Clarity says:

Wouldn’t the old Honda commercial be more suitable?

‘…you’re either in one, on one or behind one.’ – the Fiends and Family Scam.

  32. Dunno says:

If only the island knew the real Anthony Santucci. PLP u just made me vomit thinking that you actually hired this guy. TOTAL FAILURE and im not talking about a small thing…this guy has a PROBLEM if you havent seen ie yet you will soon.

You just lost every drop of support PLP…shame on you

    • Just saying!! says:

Agree – Big mistake at our expense again.

    • OMG says:

Why don’t YOU tell us who the real Mr. Santucci is??????

      • Dunno says:

I tried…Bernews edited it out…but lets just say it scares the S*&t out of me that the PLP would actually hire a man like this.

(and bernews there is way more to the story then what u edited out from my other post)

  33. tha killin me... says:

This government, one I grew up looking forward to supporting has disenfranchised me. I celebrated on Tills hill when the PLP was elected. It was one of the happiest moments for many of us. During the last election I could not justify voting for the PLP, but I wouldn’t vote for the opposition either. Someone said it earlier… OBA needs to make it’s platform known to all.
I need a new government, a Bermudian’s government (neither black nor white… Just Bermudian) because we are all suffering the repercussions.
PLP will certainly not have my vote… One party will though!

    • Real Talk says:

Ditto. I remember well partying on Tills Hill in ’98. Thirteen years later and I am disgusted with this government. This arrogant Government needs to be taught the lesson the people taught the UBP in ’98… take the people for granted and they will rise up.

This is a slap in the face to all the hard-working regular Bermudians who have lost jobs over the past couple of years and NOT had a cushy position created for them in the civil service. Road safety legislation!?!?! Really!? Is that the best they could come up with!? Well what the hell do we have a Central Policy Unit for!? What legal background does he have that qualifies him to put together legislation!? NONE!

Premier Cox, please call an election NOW. Cuz I can’t wait to cast a vote for the OBA.

      • Peter says:

You’re both right. Bermuda will be a better place when we have two parties that know they can get voted out (even if that means voting for the OBA).

        • Real Talk says:

Trust me, I’m not really impressed by the OBA… they haven’t shown me much at all, but I’m almost willing to take a chance with what they HAVEN’T shown me when I look at what the PLP HAS shown me…

    • B says:

      Tell a friend!!

    • the truth says:

“I celebrated on Tills hill when the PLP was elected.”

So did I! What the heck happened??!!

  34. Dunno says:

oh and the fact that this guy is/was whatever head of CADA makes me sick too…its like putting an alcoholic in charge of AA meetings…wake up government,,,for real. you (PLP) are RUINING THIS BEAUTIFUL ISLAND!

  35. Just saying!! says:

Accountability my @ss. It is only for us (working class) to them, not the other way round.

Now we all have to tighten our belts (so says Paula) and hire more consultants (friends-PLP unemployed.

Can’t Paula not stop this or is she just a cog again.

This whole thing is crazy – What a mess they have put our country in.

  36. Lion says:

A consultant is an experienced individual that is trained to analyze and advise a client in order to help the client make the best possible choices. A strategic consultant may evaluate a business plan and help the client develop a plan to meet those strategic goals. For example, a client concerned with government regulations may engage an ediscovery or regulatory compliance consultant. As another example, value added resellers (VARs) may employ sales consultants to examine the client’s immediate business or technology needs and recommend products, services, or other solutions that can address those needs. What is the Permanent Secretaty for Transport doing even though her background is Education and Sports. And, what is the Central Policy Unit and the Attorney General’s Chambers doing because they have competent staff that could do this and they are already on payroll. In summary is Mr. Santucci trained to analyze and advise in this specific area of Transport specifically legislation? I would have though that this would have been someone with a legal or legislative background not an appointed advocate for road safety.

  37. Rockfish#2 says:

Anthony Santucci should resign immediately, because Lister lacks the guts to admit a gross(no pun intended) mistake was made.

Also, why is he keeping the details of this sweetheart deal confidential. One thing is certain, when the candidates show up on my doorstep, they better have some answers to this and several other questions!!

    • Point Boi says:

what makes ya’ll think it was Listers idea…..he’s been over ruled before, kicked out of cabinet before….I don’t think it was Lister…..some ppl are not his style and he’ll just have to grit his teeth and bare it ;)

      • Rockfish#2 says:

        Point Boi,
        Point taken!

      • Rockfish#2 says:

        Point Boi,

The head of the Civil Service now contradicts Lister’s statement. Looks like you are correct, problem is, who is telling the truth, Lister or Scott?

        The plot thickens!

        • Rockfish#2 says:

          correction—-should read Cabinet Secretary.

  38. Dunno says:

HAH PLP u are the biggest joke to hit this island…Please hold an election soon so we as Bermudians, BLACK, WHITE, PORTUGESE, and yes PHILLIPINOS’s can vote you out!

  39. kiskadee says:

Another waste of our money while people are having a difficult time making ends meet. Show that you have some intelligence and get rid of this government very soon before we are all completely broke

  40. PDB says:

We could just run him over…

  41. OAP (Original) says:

Ban all these huge CVR cars. Make everyone drive small sensible cars. Ban them I tell you. And the loud radios too. Bikes make too much noise. Ban them and make these young folk pedal to school or work or the wall.

  42. Young Observer says:

i think its very telling that at this moment no one in the forum has come out in support of this new position.

    • star man says:

Where is Vance and his Mommy when we need them….

      BWAA-HA-HA-Ha-Ha!!

  43. wondering says:

so please someone tell me as I am outta the loop – what is this guy’s vice. why was he fired or supposedly fired from all the hotels he has worked for?

  44. PLP but not the Government says:

I just want to congratulate Mr. Santucci and wish him success in his new post. May God help and guide you to do the right thing for us in your new role as Consultant to assist in making legislative changes in the road safety area. The Lord knows that we need them and I pray that He will help you to make a difference.

  45. My two cents says:

They must be extremely confident on winning this election as this is truly a slap in the face. To the PLP voters out there, doesn’t make you a little perturbed that they think they have it in the bag? Egos are HUGE up there in the house, disgusting. One can only assume he has something on the PLPL government.

  46. Vix says:

One negative comment fuels the next and so on.. as long as we have this judgemental negative and arrogance of ignorance in this island from people who live here we will never move forward always got to pull one another down and be judgemental. Thats why we never get ahead …Funny though Im sure more than half of the naysayers had there face on the front page and in this position they wouldnt like to hear half of the ignorant comments that everyone who “supposedly” knows them says. Simple if you dont like your government vote them out.

    • Rockfish#2 says:

Wow—your comments seem judgemental-negative-arrogant-ignorant to me. Seems you need a reality check!

    • Real Talk says:

Yah, because individuals making observations about a government saying one thing and doing another is SOOOO negative and judgmental. We never get ahead not cuz of negativity and jugementalism but cuz sometimes people are too afraid to call things for what they are… out of fear of being labeled “negative” and “judgmental”. Sometimes it just is what it is…

  47. YES MATE! says:

Hey Mr. Listless wasn’t it just six or so weeks ago that we didn’t have money to run ferries or pay bus drivers? Thanks for being open and transparent about hiring yet another consultant, but seriously man we all know what’s going on here. Don’t assume that we are stupid and will think it’s okay as long as you are open about it!

  48. The Architect says:

Does anyone actually like this guy?

    • Terry says:

Probabley just his family. I mean…look at the responses.

      • OMG says:

Yes he does have family and we as a people should remember that when we make our comments!

  49. MinorMatters says:

I’ll say it again – I cannot fathom how stupid my country is becoming. We seem to be in a state of Regression with Post Offices closing for two hour lunches, and now hiring a ‘Consultant’ with no apparent qualifications in a time when my Government tells me I need to be doing more with less…RIP Bermuda!

  50. Andrew Woodworth says:

I read comments alluding to “problems” and “vices”, coinciding with him leving employment of several hotels, but I have no idea what these “problems” and “vices” may be.

    Anyone care to elaborate?

    • rob says:

No need to do that on this or any board..

The PLP are well aware of his issues and I continue to be shocked that he continues to play prominent roles witin their hierarchy…

      • 80s Sonesta Kid says:

remember he was a UBP guy for years!!!!!! I can’t understand how guys switch teams including Furbert, Bell, etc. when the idiology of the teams are worlds apart…..hummmmmmm must be something I’m not aware of yet

  51. Bermudians are so negative says:

For one, congrats Mr. Santucci on being selected to start changing this island in a positive way. We as a people(I am Bermudian so I am included myself in this) have been so busy dragging his name down that no one has even mentioned why he was selected for this role, WHICH is to better the island…wise up Bermudians. I am shocked by all of these comments as they are just so silly and rude and he is indeed WELL EDUCATED, so before you all judge, I would gain some knowledge about him and maybe look up what CADA is about.

Stop the negativity people and assist with positive changes. Be more focused on violence then idle gossip, helping out the young instead of acting young minded and smile more because thats what we were known for.

A good day to you all and congrats again Mr. Santucci.

    • rob says:

@ Bda r so negative – seriously, really???

For real & indisputable reasons, Mr Santucci should not be placed on any Govt Boards, with the least significant being his intellect and ability to consult…

If you know him, you know this to be true..

  52. LOL (original) says:

Well Rolf is still on the Government payroll why are people surprised by this at all.

    LOL

  53. The Architect says:

    Cha.

  54. Carlton Smith says:

All this talk aboutdissatisfaction, You all know PLPisworthless now,..you all know theUBP was worthless,…Yet you want to go and vote for OBA (the new UBP).When are all of you going to wake up and rennounce party politics instead of making yourselves and the rest of us suffer with these voting for party antics.

  55. Pastor Syl says:

I wish we could get about 20 people to run as independents. I am beyond tired of party politics, tricks, lies, innuendo, revenge, etc., etc.
What we need are people who care more about this island than about keeping their positions within their party-of-choice.
Independents, STAND UP!! Your country needs you!

  56. Get Real says:

I commend the Government on this new era of openness and transparency. I mean they are doing the same pack of nonsense but now they are letting us know about it, even before the Head of the Civil Service is notified … way to go! The people come first!
