Football: Bermuda U/17 Lose 2-0 To Bahamas

Bermuda’s U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying team hopes of advancing ended when Bahamas beat Bermuda 2-nil to advance to the next round of the World Cup qualifiers.

Bahamas first goal came in the 51st minute after Precious Cooper deflected the ball in her own goal, and the second was delivered in the 76th minute.

In the first-half Bermuda lost team captain Teara Thomas after she pulled her left hamstring in the 30th minute of play. She was carried off the field by team physio Craig Brown and replaced by Sharri Weldon. During the second-half Bermuda made two substitutions. Jasmine Simmons on for Natasha Trott and Tiara Smith replaced Rayni Maybury.

The Bermuda team played two games during their trip to the Bahamas, winning 5–0 over Antigua & Barbuda earlier this week, with Precious Smith scoring all five goals for Bermuda in 19 minutes.

The team returns home Friday night. Bermuda’s starting 11 were Jaeda Smith, Sierra Fisher, Precious Cooper, K’Shela Burch-Waldron, Teara Thomas, Jasmine Spence, Sarai Paul, Natasha Trott, Rayni Maybury, Keunna Dill and Precious Smith. Subs were Jasmine Simmons, Tia Sampson, Tiara Smith, Sharri Weldon and Niambia Russell.
