‘Sporadic Interruptions’ In Ferry Service

August 13, 2011

The Department of Marine and Ports Services said they have been experiencing some sporadic interruptions to its normal ferry service over the past few days, due in part to maintenance and repairs to equipment. It is anticipated that all scheduled service will be re-instated as of Monday August 15. The full statement is below:

The Department of Marine and Ports Services is advising the public that it has been experiencing some sporadic interruptions to its normal commuter ferry service over the past few days.

The Department advised that the interruption of service was due in part to maintenance and repairs to mechanical and electrical equipment, including air conditioning systems, which needed to be carried out on some of the vessels in the ferry fleet.

As it stands, the majority of this work has been completed and this evening’s commuter service routes are running as normal.

With the diligent help of technical staff through the weekend, it is anticipated that all scheduled commuter service will be re-instated as of Monday August 15.

The Department of Marine and Ports Services apologized for any inconvenience caused to commuters.

For more information regarding the commuter service, members of the public are encouraged to contact the Hamilton Ferry Service at 295-4506.

Sounds more like the results of union people ‘working to rule’ whatever that means. It usually means less productivity, if that is possible.

Imagine if airline maintenance was only done 9-5 weekdays. Imagine if railroad or trucking services were only available 9-5 weekdays. Imagine if banking was only available, including card use, 9-5 weekdays.

Get with it M&P, the world works 24/7 to provide service. If necessary the ferry techs should work nights & be off days so that service is not interupted.

this is all a cover up, the ferrys are in bad shape and some are unfit for service and we are tired of bad management decisions which plays a big part in why we choose not to run them.

Now, now, let’s not get carried away. Public sector services should be structured, as they largely are in Bda, for the benefit of those providing the service, and not for those receiving that service.

How barbaric to suggest that govt workers should go the extra mile, give 110% or, heck, “do more with less”. You should be ashamed of yourself!!

    It is ridiculous isn’t it/
