Woman Pleads Guilty: Jewellery Theft

September 26, 2011

50-year-old Devonshire resident and self-confessed heroin user Ingrid Rose Lindo pleaded guilty to stealing $3,400 worth of jewelry from her neighbor and friend of 40 years, after claiming she needed to use her friend’s computer to check Facebook.

The guilty plea was entered in answer to a charge in court on Friday that she had stolen a wedding band, charm bracelets, and other items. The ring was the only item recovered.

The evidence was that Ms Lindo had asked the complainant to let her use her computer so that she could check Facebook. This had happened several times, and after one such visit, the complainant discovered that several items of jewellery were missing.

When arrested and asked, Ms Lindo told the Police and the Court that she had stolen and then sold the items in order to get cash to support her heroin habit. Saying that she was “sorry for what I did to my neighbor and family”, she asked to be given help for her heroin habit.

Magistrate Archie Warner adjourned the case until 10th November and ordered BARC and SIR reports. Ms Lindo was bailed for $2,000 with a like Surety.
