50 Travel Managers Attend Conference
The Bermuda Department of Tourism (BDOT) and the Bermuda Tourism Alliance recently hosted 50 North American wholesale travel industry managers for a three–day conference in Bermuda.
The conference was hosted at the Fairmont Southampton and featured presentations from top wholesale travel partners such as Expedia, TNT Vacations, Bookit.com, Travel Impressions, Orbitz, Jet Blue Getways, USAirways, Travelocity, Libgo and Booking.com.
The Minister of Business Development and Tourism Patrice Minors met with the group to thank them for their continued support and promotion of Bermuda.
Minister Minors said, “Bermuda appreciates the work that is being done to expose, sell and promote our Island. We value the relationship that has been developed over the years with their companies and look to keep the lines of communication open as we collectively promote the Bermuda product for all visitors to enjoy.”
Further, Minister Minors acknowledged Expedia for the effort in selling Bermuda. In 2010, Expedia delivered an all time high 35,000 room nights. Participants at the conference engaged in workshops and small group discussions regarding travel industry trends and promotions.
Discussion groups met to determine how Bermuda stacked-up to other destinations in terms of product, promotion and events. Individual meetings were prearranged with representatives from local hotel partners, who provided information about their services and accommodations.

On the final day, the product managers visited local attractions including Botanical Gardens, Masterworks, Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo and participated in an island-wide scavenger hunt.
Ann Shutte, BDOT Director of Global Operations, said she was pleased with the overall attendance and discussion.
Ms. Shutte said, “It was a fantastic opportunity to host important and influential industry partners on-island. Bermuda had their undivided attention for three-days. The feedback was vital and will assist us as we prepare our marketing and business development strategies for 2012.”
