Burgess Chosen To Skipper In NY Regatta

sailing blake burgessBermuda’s Blake Burgess, a freshman at Maine Maritime Academy, has been chosen to skipper one of the two boats heading down to the Storm Trysail Regatta this weekend in Larchmont, New York.

The Storm Trysail Regatta is the biggest regatta on the east coast for college big-boat sailing.

The boat Burgess is skippering is a J-Class 44, a 44′ sloop that is sailed with a crew of up to 10, which is known for its Superior design and construction that give it great performance in the most demanding offshore conditions

Switching between 420′s and big boats, Burgess has been racing every weekend all over the east coast since September. He kicked off the dingy sailing season skippering in B-Fleet, winning his first college race and placing third in his division at the first regatta. Burgess is now skippering A-Fleet for Maine Maritime in dinghies.

Following the Storm Trysail Regatta, Burgess will also be skippering a NAVY 44′ at the 81st MacMillan Cup in Annapolis, Maryland on the 21st of October.
