Human Rights Commission Roadshow

October 20, 2011

The Human Rights Commission, a unit within the Department of Human Affairs and the Ministry of Youth, Families, and Sports is inviting the public to attend the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Roadshow.

The Roadshow will be held on Thursday, 20 October at Whitney Institute in Smith’s parish from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. The doors will open at 5:30pm to allow attendees to view the various resources on offer.

A statement issued said, “The Human Rights Roadshow is an opportunity for the Human Rights Commission to increase engagement with the community in support and promotion of human rights in Bermuda. The first Roadshow event in St. Georges saw considerable interest from attendees and demonstrated the level of concern people have for their human rights and that of their fellow community members.

“Attendees will learn more about the role and function of the Commission, and find out how the Human Rights Act impacts each of us living in Bermuda. It provides a forum to discuss where protection exists against discrimination and to appreciate what work remains to be done to ensure we are building a community free from discrimination of all kinds.

“Providing sufficient support and protection of our human rights is necessarily a collaborative effort, and the Human Rights Commission is pleased to invite a variety of advocacy agencies to host information tables at the event. The Smiths Parish Roadshow will have representatives from the Office of the Ombudsman of Bermuda, the Women’s Resource Centre, Two Words and a Comma, The Centre for Justice, and Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda (CURB) to name a few.

“Please join the Commissioners and Officers of the HRC to learn more about the Commission and the Law as it applies to everyone residing in Bermuda. This is a free event and all are welcome! Come and find out more about your Human Rights! For more information please see the attached flyer or contact 295-5859 or email humanrights@gov.bm”
