Talk On Screening for Breast Cancer
Bermuda CableVision and the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre are inviting members of the public to attend an informative talk on breast health, taking place next Thursday, October 27, at 6.30pm, in the Auditorium at Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
Admission is free and doors will open at 5.15pm to allow visitors to view health screening information tables and talk with health care providers and vendors. Light refreshments will be served prior to the presentation.
The presentation, organised by the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre and sponsored by CableVision, is entitled “Screening for Breast Cancer,” and will be given by Dr. David Green [pictured].
Consultant Breast Specialist Radiologist at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre. Dr. Green will discuss the latest advances in breast screening and the importance of early detection and will answer questions on the topic of breast health.
Dr. Green is working with the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre to assist with the introduction of standards, protocols and improved breast cancer detection programmes that position the Centre to meet international best practice standards for its breast imaging programme.
Dr. Green is available at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre to meet with patients and, for those patients who may require additional breast assessment, results are immediate for both the patient and their doctors, which is helping the Charity achieve their vision of providing a “Specialist Approach to Patient Care.”
In his over 21 years as a Consultant Breast Radiologist and Clinical Director, Dr. Green has reported over 250,000 breast examinations and has performed over 10,000 image guided breast biopsies, lymph node biopsies and wire localizations.
As Clinical Director of a major breast facility in the UK, Dr. Green has gained extensive experience and expertise in managing and leading a largescreening facility, and his expertise is helping Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre to pursue their goal of achieving international recognized standards and performance. Dr. Green is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (UK) and a member of the Royal College of Radiologists (Breast Group),
Throughout his career Dr. Green has participated in the UK National Quality Standards (NQS) program in which his personal performance in detecting breast cancer was audited against national standards. Dr. Green has consistently exceeded the national standards in cancer detection whilst maintaining a low recall rate, which ensured patients did not have unnecessary repeat mammograms and breast biopsies.
Sponsorship of the October 27 seminar is an important highlight of Bermuda CableVision’s active participation in Breast Cancer Awareness Month this year. The company has been helping to raise funds for Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre via donation boxes in its offices and via an employee-driven programme of support.
CableVision trucks have been sporting pink ribbons all month to help raise awareness about the importance of screening. Last week, CableVision made a $3,000 donation to Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre at the October 14 ceremony to honour the latest recipients of CableVision’s Community Service Awards, three star volunteers from Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, Renee Carter, Jan Fraser and Audrey Morbey.
CableVision General Manager, Terry Roberson, explains the company’s interest in supporting these activities: “Breast Cancer is an issue that touches so many lives, directly or indirectly, and we are standing behind this year’s message of Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, which is ‘Finding the Cure Starts with Prevention.’ This opportunity to hear from Dr. Green, Bermuda’s new expert in breast health, is an important step in that direction. We encourage everyone to attend.”
