Three Bermuda Standouts At Training Camp

October 30, 2011

During the week of October 17, 2011, select Island Soccer League [ISL] standouts were invited to the US to try out for the Major Indoor Soccer League. A total of 14 players were selected with six players actually making the trip.

The tryouts consisted of five consecutive days of training with players from across the globe. Making the trip from Bermuda were:

ISL Champion, MVP & Leading Goal Scorer – Cecoy Robinson
ISL Goalie of the Year – Daniel Johnson
ISL Champion & Former Baltimore Blast Player – Logan Alexander
ISL Champion – Fabian Frankson
ISL All-Star – Lonnie Bascome
ISL Player – Jahnai Raynor

ISL All-Star Standout Jason Lee received a special exemption and invitation to the team training camp based on his performance during the season and alongside the MISL All-Stars that attended the ISL All-Star Game in August. Mr. Lee will be joining the training camp shortly.

After the 1st two days, initial cuts were made, as additional professional players joined the tryouts for the last three days as competition picked up. Every ISL player made it to the third day of tryouts, where competition picked up considerably. While cuts were made daily, all of the ISL players performed at a high level and made it through the full week of tryouts.

Cecoy Robinson and Daniel Johnson performed at a high level from day one, with Cecoy picking up where he left off with the ISL, scoring highlight goals daily. His ability to score from every angle made him a player to watch. Daniel Johnson started the camp as the premier goalie of the tryouts, and never left that position. Making smart decisions, and progressing daily, Mr. Johnson was an easy choice to make it through to the training camp commencing on October 24.

Logan Alexander battled a groin injury throughout camp, but made an impact with his overall knowledge of the indoor game. He helped his ISL brothers by coaching them on the nuances of the game. Lonnie Bascome and Fabian Frankson showed great athleticism during camp, with Fabian saving his best for the last day of camp where he scored 4 goals by utilizing his speed and athleticism. Jahnai Raynor played solid throughout camp, which enabled him to be selected alongside Mr. Johnson to attend the full training camp. He was lauded for his consistent improvement during camp, and will now have a chance to secure a spot on the Blast.

Every ISL scored multiple goals throughout the tryouts, which should not come as a surprise based on last season’s scoring outbursts in the ISL. While Daniel Johnson, Jahnai Raynor and Jason Lee were the only players selected to attend camp this week, all of the players have been invited to outdoor tryouts in the US. This is a first for the ISL, and should be viewed as a huge accomplishment and a sign for things to come.

Due to other obligations, Daniel Johnson will not join until January 2012 as he’s been selected to be a developmental player for Hope4Life and the Baltimore Blast, where Assistant Coach David Bascome will oversee his development into a top-flight MISL goalie. Based on his performance, Mr. Johnson has been selected by Fuzion Athlete Management as its’ first soccer player to join the management firm. He will join a roster that is full of NBA, NFL and WNBA players.
