BIU Financials Are Now Available To The Public
[Updated] The Ministry of Government Estates & Information Services confirmed this afternoon [Nov.13] that the Bermuda Industrial Union’s annual audited financial statements have been filed with the Registrar General in respect of the years 2000 to 2009, and are available for inspection by members of the public at the Registry General located on the first floor of the Government Administration Building, 30 Parliament Street, Hamilton HM 12.
On September 9th, BIU President Chris Furbert said the BIU financials up to 2009 have been delivered to the Registrar, however they were not made available to the public. When asked about the BIU’s financial position in September, Mr Furbert replied that “It is safe to say the BIU is in good shape financially.” Mr Furbert spoke about BIU expenses and assets, and said the BIU aims to “manage the members money prudently and correctly.”
The Registry General’s office is open to the public from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am. to 5:00 p.m.
Update Nov 14, 9.05am: Upon Bernews attempting to gain a copy from the Registrar General’s office when it opened this morning, we were told they were unavailable.
Update 12.06pm: The copies are now available from the Registry General in hard form, although not electronic. We will be placing part of the documents online later this afternoon.
Update 3.51pm: The first batch of the financial statements have been posted here.
Really, the Gover[n]ment makes the announcement on Sunday afternoon? What has changed? Were the earlier accounts corrected? Have they speaking with their god again?
I smell a rat.
“rat”…….
Lemming stew………………….
Good one.
Hopefully Fahy will be 1st in line for the viewing and then shut up.
No OBA vote: You have got to be kidding ! At the very least the BIU have shown that they are incompetent or arrogant in enough to believe they were above the law…I will let you decide which..
Will the financials show where the millons of vested dollars from the constuction division has disappeared ? Additionally will the report show the dispersment of dividends of said fund to any members ?
Construction members of the 70′s , 80′s and early 90′s , the unions most ardent supporters and contributors , have been hoodwinked and disinherited . Who will answer ? Who will lie ? The money was there , who will say otherwise ?
hilarious. continuously shooting the messanger rather than asking wtf and why did it take so long in the first place?
