Coco Reef Tobago Wins Hotel Award

December 1, 2011

For the fourth consecutive year, Coco Reef Resort & Spa in Tobago received the 2011 World Travel Award for the “Caribbean’s Leading Hotel”.

Bermuda hotelier and owner of Coco Reef Resorts Ltd., John Jefferis accepted the award at the ceremony held at the Sandals Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Coco Reef Resorts also owns sister property Coco Reef in Paget, Bermuda.

The awards, described by The Wall Street Journal as the “Oscars” of the global travel and tourism industry, revealed who are the “best of the best” in the world according to 183,000 travel, tourism and hospitality professionals across the globe.

Mr Jefferis with Dwight Yorke and Brian Lara:

Graham Cooke, President and Founder of the World Travel Awards, said: “The past year has brought significant challenges to the travel industry. Increased tax on long haul travel, a major economic turndown and a significant reduction in tourism spending have all impacted travel and tourism worldwide.

“Today’s winners have not only been recognised as the best in their region, but they have proven themselves to be the best in the world and the number one choice of travel professionals and consumers alike. They have remained focused on their long-term objectives and continue to deliver above and beyond the call of duty, setting an example that is inspirational to all involved in the global travel and tourism industry.”

“I am extremely proud to have received this prestigious award again on behalf of Coco Reef – Tobago,” said Mr. Jefferis, “It is a testimony to the dedicated professionals who never forget that providing exemplary service to all of our guests is what sets Coco Reef apart from other multinational chains..”

Mr. Jefferis continued: “Although we recently completed a $9 million dollar upgrade of the property with a breathtaking new beach restaurant, our guests continue to tell us that their most memorable experience is our friendly, courteous and professional staff.”

Mr. Jefferis developed Coco Reef – Tobago 14 years ago. The $2,000 per night Sunset Villa at Coco Reef – Tobago, with its marble bathrooms and 24-karat gold fittings, has been frequented by celebrities including Sylvester Stallone, Rod Stewart and Diana Ross. The Tobago property, which has 150 rooms and suites, is situated on its own private beach surrounded by 10 acres of manicured tropical gardens.

Coco Reef – Bermuda opened in 2004 and consists of 70 rooms situated on a beachfront location. The hotel features an atrium lobby, two restaurants and exotic private dining facilities.
