Five Videos: Perozzi Defeats Ward
The Berkeley Institute was packed on Saturday night [Mar.10], as droves of locals came out in support of Bermuda’s Teresa Perozzi who was defending her WBA Middleweight Title.
The 38-year-old boxer entered the arena being lead by the island’s traditional gombey dancers, receiving tremendous applause from the fans gathered in the stands.
The fight went the distance, with the judges declaring Ms Perozzi the winner over April Ward, a 26-year-old boxer from Arkansas. For ten videos of the other fights that took place during “Fight Night” see here.

So sorry I had to miss this! Loved seeing the gombeys precede our champion into the ring. I was struck anew that they are a national symbol for resilience in the face of hardship.
Ms. Perozzi, what a fight!! You took the fight to her and had her backing up the whole way through – at least that was the way it looked in the videos. You resembled some kind of dangerous force that just kept coming. Proud of you, ma’am!
Taesa’s my niece, and I’ve never been so proud of her…. such courage and determination. What a thrill to be present to see this match!
