Ultimately Mr. Sweetgall would walk through all 50 states, averaging 31 miles per day over 365 straight days.

Mr. Sweetgall finished his one-year journey in New York City in 1985. That year, he reached millions of people through TV, radio and newsprint interviews with his inspiring story on walking for wellness.
