CADA Launches Alcohol Awareness Month
CADA launched Alcohol Awareness Month in Par-la-Ville Park with its Proclamation Ceremony earlier this week, and also announced the winner of CADA’s first Youth Video competition.
In attendance were the Attorney General and Minister for Justice Kim Wilson — who read the proclamation — and Opposition Leader Craig Cannonier. Also speaking was Police Superintendent Antoine Daniels and newly appointed Road Safety Chairman Carlton Crockwell.
The Town Crier opened the proceedings and CADA Chairman Anthony Santucci welcomed all attendees which included P5 and P6 students and their teachers from Elliott Primary School.
During the ceremony, Mr. Santucci announced the winner of CADA’s first Youth Video competition. Ten videos were submitted by local schools and youth groups. The declared video winner was The Berkeley Institute Peer Helpers which included: Naquan Smith, Crai-Che Hall, Deken Saunders, Zeon Robinson, Deesa Booth, and edited by Tashel Bean.
Mr. Santucci stated, “We are extremely pleased with the number of entries submitted for CADA’s first youth video competition. We know young people listen to and positively influence their peers.
“So we created a competition, where schools and youth groups were encouraged to create a video focused on the topic, “What Children and Teens Can Do To Prevent Alcohol Use Amongst Their Friends, and Why This is Important?”
“We received ten entries and the Board was given the unenviable task of selecting a winner. I’m sure my fellow board members would agree, if we could have selected all the entries, we would have.
“The submissions were excellent and I am pleased to point out we have many budding directors, producers and actors amongst our young people. All the videos can be found on CADA’s website: cada.bm. A formal award presentation will be made to the students at their school in the near future.”
Mr. Santucci concluded, “CADA has a number of events planned for April and Minister Kim Wilson has graciously agreed to support us during our annual tag day, on April 5, by being a tagger for an hour. During the ceremony, an invitation was extended to each of the guest speakers to join us and tag for 60 minutes at a location of their choice.”
