Change For The Boulevard Community Club

April 13, 2012

The Boulevard Community Club said they will be instituting a number of changes to address challenges that “center around individuals who by action or association bring unwanted levels of risk to the community at large and the Boulevard CC specifically.”

Club President Dr Lou Mathews said, “Boulevard Community Club is committed to more than football, we are dedicated to our community and to the harmonious development of the mental, physical, social and cultural growth of very individual in our environment. The process of change does not take place over night but with the steps that we have put in place, I take comfort in the fact that we are moving this club in a positive direction.”

A statement issued by the Club said, “A couple of months ago, the Boulevard Community Club committed to respond to the growing challenges facing the community in regard to gun violence and the risks posed to fans, players and citizens. These challenges center around individuals who by action or association bring unwanted levels of risk to the Community at large and the Boulevard CC specifically.

“We realized that we could no longer continue as a viable entity without real, lasting changes to the way we do business. After conversations with our players, community persons, our members, the Bermuda Football Association and our sponsors, we have created an Agenda for Renewal that will see the club move to emphasize our finding ideas: Family, Education, Cultural Pride, Integrity, Community Service, and Youth Development.”

“The following changes will take effect on May 1, 2012:

1. A new Code of Conduct that focuses on player responsibilities to the community, football and their peers

2. Reestablished links with local community partners including the Victor Scott Primary School, Hope for Life Foundation.

3. Adoption of new Player Agreements for all players the upcoming season.

4. All interested players for the 2012-2013 campaign will undergo a screening and vetting process by a committee appointed by the executive committee and sign a contract with the club.

5. All players under agreements will agree to support the community club’s core values: integrity, education, culture, community service, and family.

6. All players under agreement will be committed to training, travelling to every venue and to a lifestyle of positive living.

7. An official return of the club to the Victor Scott School Field as a practice field and meeting place. Tuesdays and Thursdays

8. All Players must be actively seeing employment or education, or be actively involved in a programme meant to train and support them to do so.

9. New Boulevard Cubs U-10 team will be introduced to support the club.

This is very well thought out BCC. With core values like Family, Education, Cultural Pride, Integrity, Community Service, and Youth Development, you are looking to have life long positivity from your players. Other social clubs and organizations can take note. If we all look holistically to develop the young men and women Bermuda will reach “another world” status.

Congratulations Boulevard. May other clubs follow your lead. Many of our children and young adults are looking for leadership and through your initiative, I feel they have found it. God Bless you all!
