Jamel Minors Earns Power Engineer Certification
In a special ceremony held at The Fairmont Southampton, Engineering student Jamel Minors received his 3rd Class Power Engineer Certification at the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSAD) Level from Cambrian College of Applied Arts & Technology.
It was all made possible through a joint sponsorship with the National Training Board (NTB) who covered the tuition for the programme and The Fairmont Southampton who covered his accommodation, meals, health insurance and safety equipment.
The Fairmont Southampton’s Hotel Manager Rita Healy said, “Our partnership with the National Training Board has led to a great Bermudian success story.
“Jamel has sacrificed and worked hard to attain this goal and we look forward to the contribution that he will make, not just as a Fairmont colleague, but as a role model to others.”
The Minister of Economy, Trade, Industry & Community Development Patrice Minors remarked, “It is always a very special pleasure to celebrate the accomplishments of an outstanding young Bermudian especially one whose career path has been chartered through the support of the National Training Board.
“Jamel Minors represents the new energy that is being generated in Bermuda by those who are committed to improving themselves and our community. We anticipate a bright future for Jamel at The Fairmont Southampton.”
During his 2 year program, Mr. Minors obtained work experience while studying the principles and practices of power plant systems, energy management and conservation, safety and economics as well as supervision of personnel in the classroom.
Jamel Minors has previously earned his Fourth Class Power Engineers Certificate through this program and has been employed by The Fairmont Southampton since 2010.
