Seminar To Help Charities Stabilise Finances

April 10, 2012

AFL Investments is hosting a free seminar to help charities in Bermuda stabilise their finances for the future. The seminar will take place on Tuesday, April 17, 12.15-1.30pm, at the Argus Building, 14 Wesley Street in Hamilton.

Entitled “Building a Sustainable Endowment,” the session will explore investment options available to non-profit organisations to assist them in overcoming the existing economic challenges.

It will look at how to choose the right vehicles for each charity’s current circumstances, goals and objectives, as well as examining the associated benefits and risks.

The seminar will be presented by AFL Investments Wealth Manager, Elyse Rayner [pictured[. Ms. Rayner is an experienced investment and financial planning advisor to local businesses, trusts, endowments and private clients. She has expertise across global derivatives, equity and foreign exchange markets and in trading on exchanges in Canada, U.S.A., Europe and Bermuda.

Cindy Campbell, Chief Operating Officer, AFL Investments, says: “Bermuda has a huge charity community for its size and we wanted to support it with this seminar. Many charities are run by volunteers with a passion for the cause, with a part-time treasurer overseeing the day-to-day financial side of things.

“However, they are often missing a forward-looking financial planner, to help them grow the money in the bank so they can meet their far-reaching aims and objectives. This seminar will give them the tools to help them go the distance by achieving more sustainable financial foundations.”

Elyse Rayner, Wealth Manager, AFL Investments, says: “Some charities tend to operate with a short-term financial outlook, particularly in the current economic environment. They often put any donations, sponsorships or grants they receive to immediate use in order to meet their mission.

“We want to educate non-profits on how adopting a long-term philosophy is more beneficial. As in personal finance, the right investments can help a charity to preserve and grow its capital base.”

Space is limited, interested charity representatives need to register to attend on or before Friday, April 13, by emailing rsvp@aflinvestments.bm or calling 294-5715. A light lunch will be provided.
