Delta To Offer Daily Flights From New York
Delta Air Lines today [May 21] announced expanded service to 10 destinations including a new daily flight between New York and Bermuda. The flight will depart Bermuda at 2:05pm, and arrive at LaGuardia at 3:40pm starting from April 8, 2013, according to a statement from Delta.
“We’re excited to be announcing new and expanded service to these popular leisure destinations at the same time we’re building our new domestic hub at LaGuardia Airport,” said Gail Grimmett, Delta’s senior vice president – New York. “It’s another step toward achieving our goal of becoming the preferred airline in New York.”

jeeeezzzzzzzzz New York again? Why not Miami or one of the mid-atlantic airports i.e. North Carolina, Baltimore, or Phili? We already have 4 or 5 carriers doing NYC/NJ …..Do we need another carrier service to the NewYork area. JetBlue, Continental, American, USA3000, and AirTran
The more options the better I say. this should bring prices down a little which is always better. Keep them Coming!
Maybe, just maybe the volume of traffic in NYC/NJ area justifies the addition.
After all Delta’s major hub is in Atlanta, it’s trying to grow its market in the JFK/LGA with major expansion in both of those airports as it has some 360 daily flights from them.
Having flights in other mid atlantic airports will just dilute their marketshare.
It’s not just the matter of getting a flight into/out of BDA it has everything to do with the allocation of equipment, timing to connect with the largest percentage of ongoing flights and lastly interline connectivity.
There is just a greater number of potential passengers flying into and out of the JFK/LGA area than the PHL/BWI/CLT area.
Delta is the worlds largest airline and one of the only airlines that fly to all 6 inhabited continents.
BAM!!! Go Delta and the stock shall rise very soon.
I know it probably wouldn’t be welcomed by the tourism powers that be, but there would be a huge demand for an early morning flight to Bermuda and late night flight back to NY. You could command premium prices from business travelers from NY who don’t want to overnight for just 1 or 2 meetings. You would also likely find appetite from tourists who don’t want to waste half of a day by arriving at 3pm and then also gain another half day on the tail end of their trip by leaving at 7pm.
American Airlines has a flight that arrives from JFK at 10:40am and one that leaves from BDA at 5:40pm. I agree that it would be nice to offer a flight that arrives at 8 or 9and leaves later in the evening as well. As it stands, this flight schedule only allows maybe 2 hours of meeting time before you have to head back to the airport.
We only have a termninator (when an aircraft overnights) flight because the allocation of resources (aircraft) allows it. Most commercial aircraft are in use as close as possible to 24 hours a day.
It’s nice to see more competition between America bound flights but its more of a benefit for locals then tourist because there’s always been deals to be had in the U.S. for flights to Bermuda. It would be nice to see another Europe bound flight start in Bermuda but I guess thats up to the airlines & all Bermuda tourism can do is invite though it would be nice if they did.
Yeah! Bring on Virgin Airlines, PLEASE!…
Virgin has looked at this route over many years and decided there is no money to be made. Remember Condor, remember Zoom.
BA prices are so ridiculous if Virgin had lower prices they would do well by flying out of Bermuda. We need a cheaper airline than BA to get us to Europe
I would like to know if there is a minimum capacity clause where the government guarantees a % of seat occupancy or pays the difference. Because we have had to pay WestJet and USAir to Charlotte (if i recall correctly) recently for not meeting their profit targets on the Bermuda route.
The more options the better. Can’t wait for Miami and the UK.
