“Paper Cut Outs” Band Win Talent Contest

May 29, 2012

The band “Paper Cut Outs” were named the winners of the Bermuda Youth Got Talent show yesterday [May 28], receiving $5,000 and iPad2, after they beat over 160 young performers who signed up to show off their talents as part of the contest.

These filmed auditions were highlighted over a period of eight weeks during the ZBM nightly news program. After much deliberation, 35 diverse acts were chosen to repeat their performances in front of a live audience during ‘Round 2’ of the audition process.

The final top twenty prerecorded acts were revealed during a three hour, live telethon broadcast where the public were persuaded to call in and vote for their favourite performance. Three of the Coalition’s initiatives were also highlighted during the program. Votes consisted of a donation to the Coalition and were possible via phone call, text or online at www.bygt.bm.

The top twenty contestants made their last attempt to solicit votes for themselves, or their group, as they marched, danced and sang in the recent May 24th parade. A total of 2170 votes were cast by the public, with the grand prize winner receiving 11.5% of the vote.

Congratulations to the winners and ALL of the youth that participated in this competition. So much positivity out there. To the organisers thank you for giving these young people the stage to be seen! Hope that you will continue to be given opportunities to shine like Harbour Nights or Summer Concerts in the Park. I must say that was one local programme that I watched from start to finish and was sad when it ended.

    Proud to be Bermudian!!!!!
