  1. hmmm says:

Well done! Dame Jennifer has worked for the people for over 40 years. Her commitment is undeniable. She gets my full support.

Now who is the OBA gonna run down here? Is it Alfonso Harris or Clinton Paynter??

    • Concerned says:

Whoever it is, I am sure they will give Dame Jennifer a great contest. Isn’t Kim Swan in the mix as well.

    • Clinton J. A. Paynter OBA Affiliated says:

Although I would have liked nothing better than to throw my hate in this race as a life long St. George’s resident family and work commitments come first.

  2. i must admitt Dame Jennifer has worked very hard as both Premier and Minister.
i am a supporter of OBA and Dame has been to my house canvassing and i find her
to be very honest and a woman of integrity.

OBA please have a good candidate if you still want my support.

  3. Mountbatten says:

The horse that won the Kentucky Derby was not a favorite .

    • Legal Reasons? says:

yes, but there is no public voting to determine the Derby’s winner.

      • Mountbatten says:

Maybe not , but if The Mayor Kid Rock runs against her I know where I’ll be placing my bet .

        • hmmm says:

The Mayor cannot run for Parliament. He would have to resign as Mayor.

  4. Cedar Beams (Original) says:

Although I am not a PLP supporter, I applaud this Lady. She is the only politician to knock on my door in the 5 years I have been living in St G. You deserve this seat Jennifer.

    • @Work says:

I’ve never seen her in the 20 years I’ve lived in my current home and she has never been in the home I grew up in for the 20 years I lived there.

  5. Mr. Mountbatten please we all know that Dame Jennifer is a hard worker and looks out for St. Geo. does a lot and does not let it be know.

like i have stated i am a OBA supporter we need to be respectful and give praise where it is due.

Dame is a lady of Substance i wish she was OBA.

    • Mountbatten says:

Okay …I will admit , I love champagne as well ..

      • terry says:

Mountbatten has been to too many Peppercorn ceremonies…….

  6. Mr. Moutbatten, so i hope you will have a toast when DJ wins her seat.

like i stated i am not a PLP supporter but a supporter of Dame Jennifer.

if OBA does not have a good person running i will support Dame.

    • LaVerne Furbert says:

If you are a supporter of Dame Jennifer, you would vote for Dame Jennifer. I’m wonder what you would consider “a good person” for the OBA.

      • Finally left! says:

lol well its pretty obvious… they mean someone like, or even more passionate than dame jennifer…. what did you think?

        • Elizabeth Von Trumparanzi says:

You are correct it is obvious. LV just wants to put a negative slant on things as usual. She is truly pathetic.

      • The nitty gritty says:

Because despite the quality of Dame Jennifer, she is NOT backed by a team who has brought a semblance of stability, be it economic, cultural or crime related.
Sorry Ms Furbert, but we just cannot afford one more year of this mismanagement.
Saving this Island from another $1,300,000,000 of debt will require the termination of the current leadership, no different than had it been a global bank, reinsurance company or other
        public company.
It is embarassing to us all to see some of these International businesses making more profit in a quarter than we have as a country (Island mini country) in 13 years.
Do you not care about all these young people’s hopes and dreams?

        • Al says:

Bermuda’s lenders will pull the plug before there’s another 1.3 billion in debt, don’t worry about that.

We’re already paying 13% of government revenues in debt service.

      • PaPerne says:

Jennifer Dame, Jennifer Dame you are if a vote would you of supporter for. Consider would wonder I’m “person a good” OBA the for what you.

  7. SpecialGIrl4You says:

Congrats to Dame Jennifer Smith, a great lady of vision and hope…

  8. Liars says:

SpecialGirl4You….is either the Nation Defense Minister or Lt Col…..you know who.

    WHAT?!

  9. Only in Bermuda would someone who was once the leader of a country, and who was unceremoniously bounced from that leadership position, stick around past their expiration date.

Now, after 14 years of PLP government and 9 ministers of eduction later (of which she was the 1st under the PLP and is once again the current Minister of education) she is once again running for re-election. I remember her premiership. It was a wreck.

  10. peace says:

Congratulations Dame Jennifer Smith. You continue to work tirelessly for Bermuda and for our youth. Thank you for your committment. I wish you the very best. I can’t say that I’m going to vote for the PLP at the next election, but I’ve always admired your no nonsense approach and the fact that you stand on what is right. Truly a quality that woman can look up to. May God bless you as you continue walk your journey.

  11. Wow says:

Maybe some of the above can get together and amend the human rights act and do the right thing for themselves and the young people of Bermuda,,I mean come on how many Years now? Didnt happen under the Dames watch we are still waiting for the progressive on this issue ! Shameful when you think of it .

  12. Bermuda Politicks - State of Emergency says:

    champagne tonight!!!!

  13. Concerned says:

Wow politics can surely age one quick!

  14. Argosy says:

The state of the Old Town pretty closely resembles the state of the Island’s economy………..

St. George’s has been neglected by this Government while millions have been spent on the west end, hence the closed businesses, no police station, etc…etc.

How can you say she’s done a good job for her constituency when it’s down on its knees? Not even a cruise ship!

    Pathetic.

    • Somebody is making sense... says:

      Precisely.

Wondering how an elected member of parliament, former Premier cannot even get a commuter ferry for her constituents on a daily basis; can’t get a cruise ship to dock regularly in St. George’s; can’t get a weekend ferry to support both the East Community AND the West End Community. Surely there are some retail and commercial benefits for linking the two locations. All said before – Police Station, empty buildings, ghost town, if this is evidence of doing a good job then as Trump would say: You’re FIRED!

  15. Nigel Spider says:

C’om on PLP please… Pleople like Jennifer Smith – the Listers and Horton need to retire and give up politics. Those old foggies need to be told their time has passed! Better still…. Just vote OBA and send them a message.

    • LaVerne Furbert says:

So Nigel, are you saying that Mrs. Jackson should never have been elected? I think when she was first elected she was older than those people that you’ve mentioned.

      • really? says:

LaVerne, thank you for being so consistent in your character. At least there are something things we can depend on. Here you are poking up once again to make a point that doesn’t further the discussion in any way.
I think what Nigel should have said is “those old foggies who sit around doing nothing except collecting their paycheque and driving Government vehicles for non-Government related business”.
One simply can’t compare them To Mrs. Jackson, someone who works tirelessly for Seniors’ rights. Bermuda is fortunate to have somebody like her. If only she would be heeded more often.

And I agree completely with Somebody is Making Sense. How can we possibly say that Jennifer has done a great job? Just look at the state of St. George’s. This poor town has a tremendous amount to offer, but sits neglected and under-appreciated. On that criterium, DJ can but only get a less than satisfactory rating.

    • i have stated this befor i am OBA supporter, but we have some young people that we have rolled out that does not have a clue.

lets be real we need experience OBA supproters please stop hating.

      can we all get along.

Dame Jennifer has a great representative for Bermuda.

  16. Victor says:

As much as Dame Jennifer will be/is a historic figure and one who is a wholly legitimate person who has resisted benefiting personally from being a prominent member of Government, her candidacy underlines why we would be well served by term limits for elected officials. If the best and brightest in Bermuda are ever to be brought into the fold and their talents utilized to the fullest, it is essential that the self-perpetuating political oligarchy that has dominated public life on both sides of the House for decades be put out to pasture.

  17. Nigel Spider says:

Jennifer Smith who is a now a Dame had her best years when she was Premier – with such titles behind her name she has not done much for the people of St Geoeges and it is time for her to go by the wayside and drink champagne – she will not be re-elected. Ms Jackson knew when it was her time to retire and still will be e force to reckon with from the sidelines. The Dame – Horton – and Listers shud not be re-elected – it’s time for them to go.

  18. Sad Day For St Geo says:

The only thing I can positively say about Dame Jennifer is that unlike some others,, we all know she didn’t dip her hand in the cookie jar……

  19. Bad Idea says:

I think the word retirement is in order. But wait, maybe she can’t retire, I hear those Futurecare premiums are pretty steep – $600 – $1000 dollars a month.
