Lt. Col. David Burch Adopts Purvis Primary
Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith attended the Purvis Primary School this morning [June 11] to thank Lt. Col. David Burch for becoming the latest to join the Adopt-A-School programme.
Minister Smith said, “Today, we are here to celebrate the adoption of Purvis Primary, by Lt. Col. David Burch. This demonstration of his commitment to our young people is just another extension of his selfless public service.
“To date the Adopt-A-School programme has raised over $180,000 for repairs and services for more than a dozen of the island’s public schools.
“The initiative allows principals, teachers and students to get on with the job of teaching and learning, without worrying about maintenance or repairs or even supplies”, Minister Smith said.

Good afternoon:
Once again I am delighted to announce yet another addition to our Adopt-A-School programme.
Today, we are here to celebrate the adoption of Purvis Primary, by Lt. Col. David Burch.
Ladies and gentlemen, Col. Burch is no stranger to public service as you all know, having served the Government in numerous Ministerial capacities.
And today, this demonstration of his commitment to our young people is just another extension of his selfless public service.
Col. your act of generosity for the students of Purvis Primary will have a far reaching effect on this school, and it gives me great pleasure to publicly thank you for your contribution.

Well said @streetwise, but there is a more sinister program afoot here, getting the hearts and minds of future voters at an earlier age… a la comments made by the Dame at a Parliamentary Conference in Maylasia if my memory serves me correctly. OBA beware of what is going on here!!!

Local politics dropping to a new level. As an ex Minister of Immigration and responsible for work permit policy that has seen jobs go off Island reducing Government revenue, he is now adopting the school because his own Government has insufficient funds to maintain it. Also looks as if we are seeing another faction forming within the PLP.
toe back in the water for the Colonel……been told to keep his mouth shut and he must be bursting…..no quotes from him yet as they want to make certain he is controlled…..just keep him away from anything connected to business…..

Are all the negative comments simply due to the fact of who the donor is? I can recall seeing an article (couple of weeks ago) wherein a gentleman (Mr. M. Caines) adopted a school and I don’t recall seeing all these negative comments. I think that it is a great idea and other schools have benefited in the past. I wish someone would adopt our school. I don’t care if you are OBA, PLP, Grocery clerk or the average “Joe Blow” on the street I think that I and my students would be most appreciative…..Not EVERYTHING has to be Political………
