BDOT Retains Eyes2market For European Market

July 30, 2012

The Bermuda Department of Tourism [BDOT] has retained Eyes2market, based in Rellingen Germany, for full-service sales, marketing and public relations representation for Germany, Austria and Switzerland for 12 months, effective July 2012.

According to Director of Tourism William Griffith, Europe’s German-speaking markets show “good growth potential” for the island’s tourism industry.

“Business from the German market increased by 12 percent in 2011 and we feel there is potential there to attract more visitors,” said Mr Griffith. “Eyes2market is a leader in the industry and we expect them to help us maximize the potential of the market.”

L-R: Eyes2market’s Simone Roesel, Mr Griffith, Eyes2market’s Janine Beckmann:

Simone Rösel, managing director of Eyes2market, noted that Bermuda’s attributes offer tremendous appeal for the German-speaking markets, “The island’s beauty and diversity, coupled with its proximity to the U.S. east coast, offers great opportunities for visitors to make Bermuda part of a North American holiday escape.”

Ms Rösel cited Bermuda’s distinctive pink-sand beaches, coral reefs, friendly people, golf courses and history as key selling points for German vacationers. The agency will be conducting training sessions, fam trips and special events organized in conjunction with important tour operators and media as among the tools the agency will utilize to sell and promote the destination.

“We are extremely proud to represent Bermuda,” said Ms Rösel. “We know there are tremendous opportunities to promote the destination in German-speaking markets and we look forward to working closely with the Department of Tourism to maximize the destination’s potential.”

I think Bermuda would have better spent its money trying to coerce a mainland European airline to startup direct flights to Bermdua. BA needs some competition. Europeans can fly direct to many Caribbean islands, but to go to Bermuda it is a hassle – there is no choice but to fly through London or a northeastern US city. Today, people want more convenience at a better price.

I agree… a direct flight from Europe would be an advantage. I am glad to see that the DOT has retained a Europian company for marketing on that side of the Atlantic. It’s a different market and US based ad’s just don’t work…

@Kathy: I seriously doubt any other European airline would wish to fly to Bermuda. The reason they fly to many Caribbean destinations is due to the relationship that has been developed over the years, and the feasibility of flying to those destinations. In Barbados, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and other wide bodied jet charters have full flights going there! Further, BA and Virgin have two flights a day going to Barbados. Let us be honest and ask, can Bermuda compete with this? I agree BA needs some competition but the likes of Lufthansa has bigger fish to fry… sorry.

stop thowing away money on this market invest the money on the east coast were most are tourist come from treat tourisum like a business other wise we will continue year after year to lose money

    • pepper says:

I agree with you Jack, we need to invest our money on the east coast !!!!!
Wayne Furbert is trying hard to bring tourist to our Island… but when they get here and go to our beaches…… my Lord the rest rooms at these locations are deplorable !!!!!!!!!!!we should be so ashamed !!!!so we want to entice the Germans to come to bda….one thing about the Germans they are not afraid to tell it like it is………

Not trying to be negative but it would have been nice to see the actual numbers instaed of playing the percentages game. Up is better than down I agree but 12% increase from what?

Did we get 50 Germans before and now got 56?
Did we get 100 Germans before and now have 112
Did we get 1,000 before…you get the picture.Id like to know how my money is being spent.

Show me real numbers! No more tourism bar charts that show exagerated growth or percentages. Tell us, what was the cost per extra person?

Did all these extra Germans come from Germany? I know that sounds like a strange comment to some but with people immigrating and working all over the world for all we know those Gemans could have bben here as a result of a BMW or Volkswagan USA division convention for all we know.

Im not trying to be negative, I am happy to see numbers going up! But show me the numbers. I want to believe instead of question the results.

I concur! Requesting to view empirical data is not being negative. In a democracy this is a right. We truly have more questions than answers.

Bermuda must improve its tourism product immediately if it is to compete in this global market. We need to explore sports tourism-opening up May 24th road race and doing away with the restrictions, which are absolutely counter-productive. Our cultural expressions, musical; visual art; culinary arts can attract tourists. Eco- tourism needs to be explored.
Bottom line, If you want to attract tourists, offer them a high quality product.
This goes right to the top-re Madame Premier. We need strong leadership to bring tourism from the abyss.
