Final Day Of White’s In Warwick Sale: 50% Off
The final day of the liquidation sale today [Aug 16] at White’s in Warwick will see goods sold at 50% off, KPMG said this morning.
White’s Supermarket at Warwick was ordered into liquidation on Friday [Aug 10] and all the staff were laid off. The liquidation sale started yesterday with goods selling at 25% off, and ends today.
A statement issued this morning by KPMG said: “After 88 years White & Sons Limited will be closing their doors after entering liquidation.
“In light of this the Warwick Store [22 Middle Road] will be holding a 50% liquidation sale of all stock, household and health and beauty items. The sale will take place today [16th August] from 1:00pm- 8:00pm. Everything must go!”
“Any creditors, suppliers and or potential purchasers with questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Khalid Davis on +1 441 294 2628, by fax on +1 441 295 8280 or by email at khaliddavis@kpmg.bm.”
Although White’s in Warwick is the only one of White’s three locations to be formally closed at this time, Butterfield & Vallis have applied to wind-up White’s at Haywards and White’s at Southside Ltd. The Supreme Court will decide on the matter on 31st August 2012.
White’s in Southside presently has signs posted [pictured top left] saying they are having a 40% off sale, while White’s at Haywards has noticeably bare looking shelves [pictured below]. White’s first opened its doors in 1924 and previously employed a total of 85 people.
Last night [Aug 15] Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Patrice Minors said, “I like the rest of Bermuda have been saddened by the turn of events affecting the White & Sons staff members.
“I can confirm that the Department of Labour & Training has been in constant communication with the Human Resources Department of White & Sons Ltd. since July 20, 2012 to offer our assistance.
“I want to make clear that this Government is 100% committed to providing employment and training related assistance to these individuals who have worked at this establishment. And we will make every effort to ensure that we provide them with a seamless transition back into the workplace for them.
“We also encourage affected individuals to visit our offices in the Ingham & Wilkinson Building, 94 Reid Street to register and speak with an Employment Officer. We also encourage employers with job vacancies to take advantage of our new centralized email system and send them to employment@gov.bm,” concluded Minister Minors.
Can anyone explain why White’s Southside was closed yesterday. They had two people outside the store not letting anyone in. Today it just has the closed liquidation sign.
they were probably marking up the prices for people who would stop by after work.
Disgusting
They were closed yesterday cause the owners were trying to get everything sold before liquidators came in so they can play the staff health insurance, social insurance and company pension that has not been paid for months but they have been deducting out of their pay, which should come out of their own pocket.
THEY WERE CLOSED DOWN BY COURT ORDER BECAUSE THE OWNERS WANTED TO SELL EVERY THING OFF FOR THEMSELF BEFORE THE LIQUIDATORS CAME IN.
AGAIN JUST THINKING ABOUT THEMSELVES AND NOT THEIR STAFF, IN OTHER WORDS TO HELL WITH THE STAFF.
Dark days are upon us…this is not the time to blame and point fingers but the time to stop this runaway train before it is too late (which it may well be).
This is hugely alarming.
Yup! Dark days are upon us! Jesus is coming back! Repent! REPENT!!!
Vote OBA everything will turn around immediately.
cash and checks only….sounds like they are trying some fast ones……..
Ridiculous… See where greed gets you!

I was told that prices had been put up on selected items at Southside.
IM STAFF OF SOUTHSIDE AND YOU CAN SAY WHAT YOU WANT ,BUT THERE IS NO WAY ON HELL THAT US STAFF WOULD ALLOW THE WHITES BROTHERS TO PUT UP PRICES TO LINE THEIR POCKETS AT THIS POINT OF TIME….NO WAY…
