Man Charged With Stealing 24 Ears Of Corn
58-year-old Southampton resident Norman Dowling pleaded not guilty in Magistrates Court this morning [Aug 17] to stealing 24 ears of corn and trespassing on the land on which the corn was growing. Senior Magistrate Archie Warner set Mr Dowling’s bail at $2,000 and trial for 9th November.

Flog him if convicted. As a grower who has had many things stolen, I sympathize with the farmer. Ppl just don’t see the knock on implications of their ways. Discourage people from even growing anything….and when that boat doesn’t come one day…what the hell are you going to eat, fool. While your jokes are funny the fact that a 58 year old man had to allegedly resort to steal an ear of corn to get nourishment. The sad fact of the matter is that there will be more situations like this due to the increasing cost of everyday necessities.
We live in one of the most affluent societies in the world and yt things lke this are aloowed to occur.
All the agencies that are out there that provide assistance to people struggling need to come together to provide a more sustainable assistance program so that things like this don’t happen.
