CableVision Launches Video-on-Demand

Bermuda CableVision today [Oct 2] announced the launch of its new Video-on-Demand [VOD] service, which is now available in Somerset, and will be progressively rolled out parish-by-parish over the coming months, moving from West to East.

The new service is on Channel 500, and provides “Anytime Entertainment” with a vast library of movies, shows and events that customers can browse and access when they want, on their schedules, at the click of their remotes. Viewers can also pause, rewind, and fast-forward the VOD programming they are watching.

The service will be made available to all CableVision TV subscribers, and does not require internet service or a monthly subscription fee. It will work with any of the digital set-top boxes currently in customers’ homes and will be added to customers’ service without the need for a service call or additional wiring.

Viewers can choose from a huge selection of programming on Channel 500 that includes both free and paying content. Prices for paying content start at $2.99. Among the categories in the new service are movies including new releases and genres, HD (and soon) 3D movies; ‘Free For Kids’ content; events such as UFC and boxing; and Premium channel programming from Showtime and TMC. There is also a free Karaoke channel, as well as free sports programming. CableVision will be adding to the library of content on a regular basis.

To celebrate the launch of this new service, CableVision is inviting customers to visit their Washington Mall location between Wednesday, October 3 and Saturday, October 6, and sing a song from the Karaoke library! This will entitle the singer to receive a voucher good for $20 off their cable bill.

Customers who are interested in purchasing programming from Channel 500 and the library of Video-on-Demand titles are invited to visit CableVision’s website – www.cablevision.bm – or the company’s Customer Care Centre in Washington Mall to register a confidential PIN number, if they do not already have one.

This number, also used for Pay-per-View movies and events, serves as the customer’s protection from unauthorised use of their account, and will remain confidentially on record at CableVision. Customers will receive an itemised listing of their VOD purchases, as well as the price of each, on their monthly statements.

CableVision points out that first-time use of the channel takes about 30 seconds for the programme to load, with subsequent use being much faster.

VOD service is being launched first in Somerset, and will then be made available parish-by-parish, moving from west to east, with a new parish being activated every few weeks.

CableVision General Manager, Terry Roberson says: “Video-on-demand is one of the most popular services in entertainment today, and we’re excited to be bringing it to our customers. It’s TV on their schedules – no need to leave home – and with access to a huge and growing selection of programming.

“Now, if you decide to rent a movie at 3.24pm, you can start watching then, pause, and finish watching later that evening. You can even watch the movie over again. Movies will be available on our system even before they reach Netflix.”

To assist customers in using the service, CableVision is providing an instructional video on its Channel 99 and Channel 100 that explains how to browse and order VOD programming. Leaflets will also be available at CableVision’s Washington Mall location, or may be downloaded from the company’s website.

Further announcements will be made in the coming weeks about service launches in the next parishes to be activated. In the meantime, customers can request their PIN numbers now in order to prepare for the arrival of VOD in their areas.
