October 4, 2012

The Fairmont Southampton’s newest restaurant The Newport…A Gastropub, is celebrating Oktoberfest with a special three course set menu that captures the festive spirit of the internationally celebrated German celebration of Beer.

The Oktoberfest Menu at The Newport begins with The Newport “Brotzeit” plate, a tasting plate featuring ‘Obazda,’ a traditional Bavarian cheese spread, Bavarian soft Pretzel, shaved cured ham, pickles, house made German Bratwurst, Sauerkraut and sweet mustard.

This may be paired with Hoegaarden Beer from Belgium. Next on the menu is the Rinder Roularden, a braised roulade of beef with red cabbage, bread dumplings and boiled potatoes. This may be paired with Chimay Triple Ale of Belgium. Completing the meal is Kaiserschmarrn, a baked pancake with toasted almonds, plum compote, apple sauce and vanilla ice cream. This may be paired with Bermuda’s own Dockyard Whale of Wheat Ale.

The Fairmont Southampton’s Director of Food and Beverage, Steven Stefaniuk said, “The Newport with its creative line-up of handcrafted draft beers is the perfect place to celebrate Oktoberfest. Chef Kellie Rolfe has unveiled a menu that captures the taste of this exciting German cultural and culinary festival and we anticipate that diners will appreciate the selection as well as the price.”

Oktoberfest is a Bavarian festival that has been celebrated since the 19th Century in recognition of the marriage between Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen, in 1810 and is celebrated around the world.
