16-Year-Old Student Arrested After Fracas

November 6, 2012

Police responded to CedarBridge Academy shortly before 2pm today [Nov 6] to a disturbance, and the police  were confronted by a 16-year-old male student with a cane when they arrived. After refusing to put down the cane, the student was subdued, restrained and taken into police custody.

Police Media Relations Manager Dwayne Caines said, “Police responded to a report of a disturbance that took place at Cedarbridge today. Upon police arrival they noticed a 16 year old male student brandishing a cane. He was asked to put down the cane by officers; however, he then turned to the officers and put up a struggle.

“He was eventually subdued, restrained and taken into police custody. The teenager was later released on bail. Despite a number of agitated students in the area at the time, police officers at the scene worked with school personnel to restore order. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.”

Yep . . .this is what happens when children have no fear and don’t get a cut arse!!! Ooops . . .BPS how dare you subdue a cane brandishing 16 year old . . . you should have called The Coalition for the Protection of Children and had Sheelagh Cooper and her crew come and do mediation with him . . . Shame on you!!!!

    • Ayisha says:

Shame on you for supporting PLP – They are destroying the youth on this island and hundreds of people have died under their leadership as a result of Gang activity not been controlled!!!!!!!

      • Logic76 says:

I have yet to find any reference to a political party in the above comment. Well done Ayisha, you have turned a politically irrelevant post into yet another debate! The ignorance on this island never ceases to amaze!

      • shameful says:

Um it was the previous government that destroyed our youth. They introduced a system to our island and built these mega schools. This system was failing in the United States at that time so why bring it here. They set out for us to fail and they succeeded. I have never seen so many kids transferring to home or private school ever. There are some public school teahers that have their kids in alternative schools. While it is their choice; I wonder why. Now I would have thought by now that the current government would have changed things back to how they were but clearly our education system is not a priority and I am a PLP supporter. So with our school system failing and our kids not being educated as well as the economy in a downward spiral, it’s no wonder why we are experienceing such negative behaviour. Everyone needs to stop their madness and work together as a whole. Both parties want to continue blaming each other and in the meantime our island is at its worse!!!!!!

The walking cane is now being used as the weapon of choice. Be aware during your travels…you will notice that there are good number of males/females who “Oscar” the legitimacy of using this walking aid.

The ages of the genders vary.

This article fails to mention the young man who ended up in the hospital as a result of this incident with a broken jaw in 4 places. Also the children who are traumatized by what they witness, apparently some have compared it to a horror movie with blood all over the place. There is NO reason why in a school of 700 children there are 25 bad apples allowed to disturb the education and peace of those who are interested in learning. It is unacceptable to have our Educators in an environment that is NOT safe for them to teach.

The Ministry of Education needs to make the right decision by allowing these individuals to be expelled so that the remaining students are not attending school in fear.

Several children I know wish they did not have to attend school next week when these young boys return to school after 5 days of suspension this is RIDICULOUS…….

  6. ms. simmons says:

The 16 year old with the cane was actually the friend of the boy whom was being jumped by parkside boys and had his jaw broken because he lives in the parish of Sandy’s. Nobody was able to stop the boys from jumping the victim. The 14yr old involvin the jumping is the same 14yr old parkside boy who is currently going up for the case with the guy around the Curve that was beaten and robbed in front of his young child/ren. Why is this 14yr old even allowed to be in school around others with these serious charges pending? Cedarbridge has many gang related students, and during lunch periods you would be surprised to see all the “town” students in one area, all the “country” students in another. The sad things is the school even has to do supervised lunches to monitor that activity. Students do not feel safe, especially after watching that boy be beaten and jumped like that. There was blood everywhere, and a lot of agitated students that felt helpless because no one wanted to get hurt trying to stop the beaten. Only the couple of boys that were friends of the victim were “trying” to stop the beating. It was horrible to see these young men in a situation like this. There are a lot of parkside kids in that school that want a name for themselves. The other students (males) nowadays have to link up with other groups of males at school to be protected, as there is only so much the teachers can do. If they are not with other guys, they will become a target. These are the times right now….
