Sailor Who Jumped Overboard Still Not Located

November 10, 2012

The search operation for a sailboat crew member that jumped overboard two days ago has been suspended following the completion of an extensive search, a Harbour Radio spokesperson said this evening.

The search began after Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a call from the sail boat ‘Blue Moon’ reporting that a crew member had intentionally jumped overboard and was “reluctant” to come back onboard.

A U.S. Coast Guard aircraft, Bermuda Marine & Ports boat, a container ship and a bulk carrier were involved in the search, which took place approximately 50 nautical miles west-northwest of Bermuda.

The sailing vessel ‘Blue Moon’, which the crew member jumped off, continued on its way to Bermuda and arrived this morning [Nov 10].
