Cameron Douglas Jailed For Five More Years

December 19, 2012

A 33-year-old lawyer who was romantically involved with Michael Douglas’s son repeatedly smuggled drugs into prison for him hidden in her bra, according to international media reports.

This news emerges as Cameron Douglas’ lawyers appeal a U.S. court’s decision to double his five-year sentence due to repeated drug offences during his incarceration.

His lawyer Paul Shechtman called the additional sentence “shockingly long,” saying it “may be the harshest sentence ever imposed on a federal prisoner for a drug possession offense.”

Cameron Douglas was arrested in 2009 for conspiring to distribute more than 4-1/2 kilos of methamphetamine and 20 kilos of cocaine. He pleaded guilty, co-operated with the authorities, and was sentenced to five years in prison in 2010.

Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas, his actress wife Catherine Zeta Jones and their young children lived in Bermuda until 2009 when the family relocated to New York City for personal and professional reasons.

Michael Douglas is the son of Bermudian Diana Dill, who is successful in her own right with an acting career spanning over 50 years. She was born in Bermuda in 1923, and is the daughter of Lt/Col Thomas Melville Dill, a former Attorney General of Bermud.
