Premier Craig Cannonier: Holiday Message

December 24, 2012

Merry Christmas Bermuda!

This is my first Christmas message to you as Premier and, on behalf of my wife Antoinette and my family I wish you all the best this holiday season.

This is such a special time of year, a time to come together with the people who mean the most in our lives, to share with them the love that lies in each of us.

It is a time of gift-giving, for sure, but we should never overlook the fact that the greatest gift is the gift of ourselves.

Too often we forget that simple truth.

We get caught up in busy lives – trying to make ends meet, locked in routines, moving about – that we often overlook, or take for granted, the people who are the source of our strength, our identity and our guidance.

Christmas gives us time to appreciate what we have to be thankful for, and to reach out to those who shape our lives, who make us who we are.

So this Christmas, I urge you to reach out to your sister, your son, your father, your mother, your wife, your husband, your friends, your colleagues and your fellow Bermudians.

Use this day to show your appreciation to the people who make your life good:

With love for your family and friends, with the support and sociability you extend to your neighbours, with the courtesies you express each day to others on the street, and in service to those who need your support.

Use this holiday to spread good cheer, giving freely the gift that is you.

Give to others as you would have them give to you.

Use the spirit of Christmas to grow our world into a better place – giving of ourselves, brother to brother, sister to sister; each of us supporting one another, letting the spirit flow forward; taking us to a better place.

Christmas is about us coming together with love in our hearts and in faith that we can be restored and renewed.

It is a time to set aside differences, to celebrate the spirit symbolized by the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ, whom God put on this Earth to reveal a path of unity and love for our fellow man.

Today in Bermuda, we need to show that love. Many are suffering, many are filled with doubt about the future; many are worried they will not be able to pay the rent or put decent food on the table, let alone a gift under the tree.

To those who can help them, I urge you to reach out. I urge you to open your hearts, extend a hand – as Jesus would.

Now is the time to give of yourself.

Now is the time to do good for your fellow man.

Now is the time to be what Christmas stands for in your heart – sharing, giving, supporting, with the love for others that lies within each of us – as Jesus showed.

Let us use this Christmas Day, and the spirit it represents, to move forward together, with love in our hearts, giving to others to make the life of our Island more beautiful than ever.

And as you celebrate, take a moment to say a prayer for our Island home.

Pray that as a community we continue to look out for one another.

Merry Christmas.

God bless you and God bless Bermuda.

Mr. Premier, you are repeating yourself and it is becoming quite boring. Awaken to REALITY. You could take a page out of the BPLP Leader, Marc Bean’s book.

  8. 32n64w says:

A very thoughtful and heartfelt message – and not one mention of politics; unlike the opposition leader who referenced the PLP on no less than three occasions.

  9. The Dark Knight 2 says:

Well said Sir, Bermuda actually seems to have what is needed Leaders on both sides, oh yes our future depends on it. Compliments in return to all a hundred fold.

  13. Disappointed OBA voter says:

    Mr Premier,
If you have in fact asked Ms Alexis Swan to join the Sentate, can you please remind her that she must control herself and refrain from revealing such official decisions on Facebook.

If you have appointed her, there is NO excuse for Ms Alexis Swan to be posting on facebook the following message, which can be viewed by any Facebook user:
“OMG! i just recieved the best news everrrrrrrrr. So happy and over the mooon. I will be smiling for the rest of the year and then some.”

If THIS is the way she announces to Bermuda that she will be appointed to the Senate I’m extremely disappointed in her and must question your judgement.

Senate appointments are a grave responsibilitiy, and Ms Swan must treat them as such.

    • Luis Suarez says:

Er what has this got to do with this story?

    • pebblebeach says:

Who is Alexis Swan…should we know her or of her in some manner?

      • pebblebeach says:

Just googled… oh she was a candidate in the recent election…enough said…

    • M.R. says:

that doesn’t say anything about what news she has received.

    • seaweed says:

wow..less than a week after the election and already you are a are disappointed OBA voter??..oh no, let me guess, you never voted OBA and are in fact a disappointed PLP voter. Get a life and oh by the way Merry Christmas

Courtesy of everyone who voted OBA

      ps The Grinch was Green

      • 21 Questions says:

LMAO ITS BECAUSE SHE’S PREGNANT HAHAHAHAHA MORE LIKE DISAPPOINTED PLP VOTER!

  14. GOD says:

@ dthtoo\ You are poisonous and vile towards mankind. Jeremiah 17 vs 9 The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who can know it.

  15. Congradulations once again Mr. Premier and regardless of what lies ahead you will go dwn in history of being the first Premier of the O.B.A.party and that no one can take from you.

The bible commands us to pray for those who have leadership over you and this we wil do fervently and will continue to pray that your time in office will not be compromised by those who are not God fearing.

Premier Cannonier with your faith in God we believe you have much to offer during your time in office and we pray much success and being able to deliver most of what you have promised.

May the Wisdom of Almighty God and knowledge with understanding be bestowed upon you for all times that you must stand and give an account of that which you have been given.I also ask that those that work along with you in your cabinet wil be trust wothy and honest to the vocation in which they are called.
