Belvin’s Variety Store In Flatts Robbed
[Updated - Police confirm Belvin's was robbed, with the suspect "brandishing a bladed article" at the female employee.]
Police attended the Belvin’s Variety store in Flatts some time before midnight last night [Jan 5] to a report of a robbery.
We unofficially understand at least one person entered the premises armed with some form of weapon like a machete, and demanded cash from the clerk.
Police cordoned off the area while they conducted an investigation and the forensic department were seen photographing the area. Details are limited, however we will update with official information as able.
Update 5.33pm: A police spokesperson said: “Around 7:15pm on Saturday, January 5th police officers responded to a reported robbery at Belvin’s Variety in Hamilton parish. It appears that a lone offender entered the store brandishing a bladed article and demanded money from a female employee.
“The offender then escaped on foot with an unknown quantity of cash. The female employee was not injured. Inquiries are ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Belvin’s Variety in Flatts around the time of this incident to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.”
I stop there all the time to buy snacks and they used to have security.
A shop isolated like this needs Security.
