Christmas Day Murder Suspect Held In UK

January 4, 2013

A suspect in the murder of Malcolm Augustus is in the UK, the police have confirmed. As Bernews reported a few days ago, a man the police sought to speak with in relation to the murder left the island on a flight to the UK in late December.

A police spokesperson said: “The investigation into the death of Malcolm Augustus continues. A suspect is in the UK and the Bermuda Police Service is working with the relevant agencies within that jurisdiction on this matter. No further comment on this matter will be made at this time.”

Mr Augustus, 20, was shot and killed on the St George’s golf course just after midnight on Christmas Day. A 24-year-old George’s man was arrested later on Christmas Day on suspicion of murder, and shortly after that the police said they believe at least two other men were involved.

Two other men were subsequently arrested, and 33-year-old Wolde Gardner appeared in Magistrates Court on Jan 2, where he was was charged with the premeditated murder of Mr Augustus and using a firearm to commit an indictable offence.

    • swing voter says:

Yep there is a new sheriff in town named the Cannon. I also noticed the garbage collection schedule is consistant i.e. no longer on ‘flexi-time’. Nest is immigration and customs and dept of transport buses and ferries….clean up is underway ;-)

      • Richard says:

Start with immigration that hole office need to be clean up anybody who been there more then 5-10 years give them walking papers these guys think they are God and take pleasure play with people lives talk people like they are under their feet because they hold all the card send them packing

      • Judge Dredd says:

No swinger we don’t have sheriffs and the Premier is not the head of the police the Governor is. To suggest that police do better or poorer work because of the government is simply infantile. Now finish your meal and take your meds.

        • swing voter says:

hahahahahah yur fulla shyte @ JD…when do you recall the police ever rounding up all the culprits involved in a major crime this quickly? Even putting out an APB via media to get one culprit to turn himself in. And moving swiftly to arrange the UK police welcoming party to meet our boi at the arrivals gate at Gatwick….now you finish yur meal and go play in the street ;-)

          • Judge Dredd says:

Ok I’m going to admit that I’m very confused about how this works. Can you help a fellow Bermudian out? Who from the new government gives the order? Does the premier tell the police what to do when the murder happened? I’m sitting humbly at your feet and asking you to take this opportunity to educate me because honestly I don’t know. Map it all out for me please. Thanks

          • Mother says:

smdh!! all im gonna say is this ok you claim its the new government the police has this case round up and your question when have they ever rounded up a case this quick??

Ans. Rebecca Middleton They did a great job with that RIGHT!!! Oh Funny where the same government in power now that was than!!! oh go ahead say its a new government cause the name change!! Lets hope they do better with this 1 than.. (jus giving a stupid response so u can see how stupid u sound)

Now lets get this straight the GOVERNOR NOT THE GOVERNMENT is control of BPS!!

Good Job BPS ROUND THEM UP and i hope u sort this out to shut anyone who doubts u’s mouth up

          • Red Lion says:

So you think the OBA has something to do with the murder case??? Please stop talking that BS. How you know people at RAA just didn’t talk and word got around to the police or there was a witness. Its not like the men had on masks or anything. Its not like it was planned like some of the other execution style murders. Get a grip.

  2. Will says:

Good job! can already smell that change in the new year!

    • Pro OBA posters kill me says:

You can’t be serious can you!

    • frank says:

this just good police work not politics

      • VJ says:

Exactly!!! I wish these people knew how absolutely ridiculous they really sound. So Will and Swing Voter, you are accusing the police of deliberately doing a shoddy job all of this time? What utter and complete nonsense!!! Does your Mommy still read fairy tales to you at night too?

        • swing voter says:

do you remember Lister’s ‘softly softly’ comments? Oh, I thought you missed that

      • Union Member says:

Agreed. Politicians cannot hire or fire people. That would be called Ministerial interference. The Code of Conduct should be followed and the Direcotrs, Commissioners etc are in charge of operations. Politicians should be focused on forward planning and policies. Getting in the details was the demise of the PLP government.

    • crying shame says:

To say that one murder that is being actively worked on and swift progress is being made is all because we have a new Government is irresponsible at best. It is a complete slap in the face for all the other countless families who have suffered because of this selfless violence. It sends a enormous sense of disappointment and disgust that your comment can be construed to mean that the police wasn’t and didnt do their job to solve murders because PLP were in government, and now just because we have a new government they have decided it’s now time to do their damn job. I pray that this isn’t the mindset of the BPS. No new legislation has been passed hence no real change has yet to take place when it comes to how the police carry out investigations.

      • Cooter Cavenport says:

Yes I agree, the police are doing the best they can do, and I personally believe they are doing a good job. This has nothing to do with who is in “power”. They have a job to do and with the punks in white tee shirts playing around thinking they are the “bad Boys” it sure makes it difficult. Come on guys grow up, we are living in a great place and could make it even better to play nice. I love this place. Cheers, Cooter

  3. Love my BPS says:

    Good job guys!

  4. keywest says:

You cant be serious.. U think oba are responsible for this? Its just good policing.. Same thing they have been doing for the most of 2012 bringing murderers to court

  5. The Truth says:

Nothing to do with politics or police. These are the dumbest alleged murderers in bermudas history! Alleged murders, lets see what DPP produce.

  6. hmmm says:

good police?? no good neighbors! if it wasnt for the neighbors the police wouldnt kno nothin!

    • VJ says:

Duh, of course people have to talk in order for the police to do their job. They don’t have a crystal ball pointing them to the perpetrators! Good job to the people that had the guts to speak up. I have to shake my head when people complain that the police haven’t done anything, yet they give them no information to go by.

    • Observant says:

So now you expect police officers to be psychic? Dope.

  7. Tricks are For Kids says:

Some of these comments belong under WELL I NEVER………I don’t have to single you out…..you know who you are…SMDH…….

  8. WTF says:

    Good work BPS.

  9. Nuffin but de Truth! says:

FACT…most of Police work is carried out with the help of the General Public(whoever and wherever they are).
In this case,it appears members of the General Public came forward with info which helped the Police.

Now,let’s see what happens with this case….

  10. James says:

Policing is not remotely like what you see on TV. The way most crimes are solved is someone tells the police who did it and then they act on that information. This is the same in most countries of the world. That’s why crime stoppers and other such programmes work.

  11. Keepin' it Real...4Real! says:

hmmmm …jus as usual …u lot makin a lotta noize about nuffin… i thought the subject was “murder suspect arrested in foreign land”…Now what you going to do..? bring him back to West Gate Recreational Facility?
I say leave him in a UK jail for a while until the DPP is ready for him to stand trial…maybe a year or two , whatever it takes…i bet he will be able to tell the difference between here and real jail…

  12. RR says:

St. George`s is a small community with less players in the anti social world. Therefor it is easier for the Police to round up suspects. Also the community isn`t as tight lipped, another plus for the Police when it comes to investigating casses. This is simply good community and Police work. It has nothing to do with OBA or PLP. The BPS always do the best they can, with the information they have.
